Show CITY COUNCIL it discusses the question of minority presentation Ite last evening at 8 the city council met but owing to a quorum not heins present adjourned fur thirty minutes to allow an officer to eo in quest of absentees at councilor beins present alie chiy council commenced business the absentees being alderman dunn and holdaway and councillors councilors Counci lors bean and daniels the latter subsequently put in an appearance mr farrer presented a petition from A 0 smoot jr et al praying the council for the privilege of fencing a certain aley in the city cemetery in order to completely fence the burial lots of the petitioners petition ers granted the report of the recorder for september showing licenses received by him amounting to inclusive of the license fees from saloons was accepted on motion of councilor brown the city treasurers treasur ers report for the quarter ending august 6 again came up it was read but beier found to contain errors mr farrer moved its reference to the committee on finance mi daniels and mr maiben opposed such a reference and wanted the report corrected immediately an the vote being called only farrer and daniels were in favor of the motion mr alexander then moved that the be referred back to the auditor for correction in accordance with the ordinance carried the report of city justice alexander for the quarter ending august 6 was read and accepted the report shows fines collected during that time as amounting to ahe report of city marshal turner for the month of september 31 was read and accepted the report shows thirteen arrests and fines assess amounting to the report of the committee on irrigation to whom was referred the claim of john B liluer for damage done by the city in its waters overflowing his land recommended that the the sum of 10 be allow ed the report way adopted the report of the committees on claims and cemetery to whom was referred the claim of duff booth co recommended that the sum of be allowed them as per contract and also the further sum of for grading cemetery grounds the report waa adopted mr alexander that the council proceed to the consideration of the bill providing for a board of health the motion prevailed after the reading of the title of the bill alderman alexander moved its reference to a special committee consisting of annn haldaway Hul daway alexander pasman and mailen carried the question of filling up the vacancies in the council was then brought up on motion councilor john A brown was appointed alderman to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of alderman talmage and mr david holdaway was appointed to fill his position A great deal of discussion then ensued a to filling the remaining vacancy in alic third ward alexander brown and maiben were in favor of a minority representation hansen and were opposed to it while farrer and daniels were in favor of leaving it to the people it was finally decided to let the matter lay over till the nest meeting of the city council when it is expected the mi bority will be tendered the vacancy in the council the meeting then adjourned till october |
