Show Utah Professor Emeritus Dies Dr. Owen F. Beal, veteran Utah educator and professor emeritus of sociology at the University died here Dec. 14 of causes incident to age. THE 81-YEAR-OLD professor had been associated with the University for 26 years, and with Utah education educa-tion for 36 years. Dr. Beal retired in 1948, then continued sociological research, participating in instructional instruc-tional programs to prepare applicants appli-cants for U.S. citizenship examinations. examina-tions. He served as president of Weber College before joining the University Univer-sity faculty in 1922, and was also head of the economics and sociology sociol-ogy department at Brigham Young College in Logan. A GRADUATE of Snow College, the University and Columbia, Dr. Beal had also performed graduate study at the universities of California, Cali-fornia, Chicago and Southern California. Cali-fornia. He was a member of the National Geographic Society, the National Retired Teacher's Assn., and the American Sociological Society. |
