C Gentlemen We the Duchesne County Utah Taxpayers' Taxpayers Association respectfully respectfully respect r respectfully fully and earnestly call ll your attention attention attention at at- to the matter of tax non of Indian Lands in Duchesne County and other counties of the state of Utah and so BO far as Duchesne Duchesne Duchesne Du Du- Du- Du chesne County is concerned we present the following data There are Indian Children in Duchesne County between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age and not attending schools 14 Indian children in Duchesne County attending schools 16 Indian children in Duchesne County attending schools elsewhere 38 68 The number of white childre children children chil chil- dren whose parents lease Indian Indian Indian In In- dian Lands which are free from taxation Total number numbe of acres of Indian Indian Indian In In- dian Lands leased by white J persons in Duchesne County County County Coun Coun- ty on which no taxes are arc paid 0 Total number or acres of Indian Indian Indian In In- dian Land in Duchesne County County County Coun Coun- ty belonging to Indians Indiana and that should help to pay the taxes of the county A About bou t These Indian lands should be taxed a large quantity of these lands are agricultural lands lands lands- some cultivated and some not Some cultivated by white people and some by Indians and some of this land land land-a a large quantity are rich grazing lands and also should be taxed to h help lp maintain the county including schools and thus relieve the white settlers of a large larg part of the tax burden which has become so grievous that the taxes are unbearable and have already destroyed tax values and depreciated property values Wherefore we most earnestly urge you to do what you can to induce the government to help in inthe inthe inthe the maintenance of local government government government govern govern- ment by appropriating enough money to compensate the county or counties for carrying a large tax burden that should be lifted by a tax on the said untaxed lands that there may not be an unjust burden on the taxpayers who pay all the taxes And if it the said property be not taxed then the federal government should compensate compensate compensate com com- the counties In a reasonable reasonable reasonable reason reason- able sum because of ot extra expense expense expense ex ex- pense In maintaining the local government because of nontaxable nontaxable nontaxable tax non able government lands that would be patented Immediately and become become become be be- come taxable if the said lands were not reserved as Indian lands |
