Show . J) TRUTHS. The Utah State Journal for the past few weeks nas carefully avoided discussion dis-cussion of local politics. This is exceedingly ex-ceedingly remarkable, as tho Journal heretofore was always to the front In ileiling with political affairs, local, rtate and national, and its silence now has caused comment and wonder. Those who are supposed to know account ac-count for it this way: They say that Wlllard Snyder some six months ago bought a large controlling Interest In the Journnl and plant for which he paid $15,000 on the understanding that Mr. Kearns and other big guns in the "American" party would put up a share of the purchase price and that when the opportune time arrived the paper would become an "American" party organ. Kearns and the others have rot made good, leaving the entire en-tire burden upon Mr. Snyder, and the latter, It Is said, is holding off and won't allow tho paper to engage In the "American" battle until the agreement with him is carried out. The Telegram has never explained about the assistance It gave the Ar-nold-TVckson combination in swindling tho citizens of Salt Lake City. Its musicn seems to bo the defense and prctection of criminals. Wo don't know how liberally it is paid. If it gets anything it is too much. Alas! for pcor George Sheets now the Telegram Tele-gram has espoused his cause. o |
