Show The 5. L. Herald saysr "A new edition of the "Congressional Directory" Di-rectory" shows that the Republicans have a majority, in the House, of twenty, whereas at the beginning of the session the majority was ouly eight. The way the increase was brought about was by unseating Democrats, like Louis W.Tttrpin, of the Fourth district of Alabama, who receired 18,778 votes, and seating Jndgejohn V. McDuffie, whose total vote was 5,625. The party in control held that a Repulbi'can should have been elected in the district, hence Turpin's majority, which aggregated about three times McDuffie's total vote, was wiped out. But the day cf retribution is coming. |
