Show progressive STATELINE it is often the case that after the discovery of a new mining camp and the subsidence of the excitement incident thereto that it is years yeara before the district reaches a productive stage and is ranked with other older camps as being worthy of consideration and the expenditure pend iture of money in its extensive development in fact it often occurs that some of the best gold finds are neglected for a long period before it begins to dawn upon the mining public that they are the making of bonanza propositions and such conditions are frequently the result of reports made by would bell be mining minin 11 experts sent out to represent men 1 and syndicates of limited means by tender feet or amateur mining operators who expect to find gold coins ready to shovel out a as soon as they acquire an interest in a mining property utah at the present time is full of new finds which at no distant day will cause decided sensations in the mining world and people will then wonder why it was that they did not know of them before in fact they will even feel like kicking themselves because of their lack of confidence when new propositions of such a character had been called to their attention the above introduction is applicable to stateline Stat eline in iron county this state now looked upon as being one of the most promising of the new camps with which utah is so prolific at the present time the discovery of stateline Stat eline was heralded with great from one end of the state to the other the first finds to be made in this new mineral section were silver prospects the utah spur and the ophir and it was riot not long before the fortunate prospectors were in the salt lake market with shipments of high grade ore from both properties the mineral also carrying excellent values in the yellow metal the burrow was then located and the rush for the new camp set in numerous other silver locations being made before it was found that the district also embraced strong ledges of gold bearing quartz the result being the staking out of the gold belt group on gold hill numerous prospects on rice hill including the big four or sunflower as the property is more generally known and later on the creole near the confluence of right and left hand gulches was graced with a location notice in addition to which innumerable claims were taken and it was not lonc long before location and corner monuments were as thick in the new gold camp as are telephone poles in zion it was soon found however that depth would be required before these prospects could be transformed into producing and paying mines the great distance from railroad facilities was a handicap to the new diggings and while the indic indications indication atio ns were splendid and the formation all that could be desired it was several years before enough work was prosecuted to convince the most skeptical that the ore bodies were continuous permanent and that they went to the deep now however stateline Stat eline is beginning to receive the reco recognition at the hands of big mining men that its merits so justly deserve several changes in conditions making it possible for the camp to enjoy substantial and steady growth from now on one of these being the extension of the railroad on from milford to within a few miles of stateline Stat eline city the of the district while recent important discoveries of late have enthused mining men to such an extent that representatives of heavy operators are now in the field taking almost everything of promise that is offered even captain J R delamar it is stated is now in on one of the most promising mines of the camp the johnny mine in which a large and very rich body of gold ore has been recently uncovered and from which regular consignments consign ments are now dow being made to the salt lake market the creole a short distance above the ties so noticeably in many of the mining districts of this intermountain region the geology of the district embraces an immense porphyry belt a mile or two in width and several miles in length the gold depositions occurring in strong parallel fissure veins while the silver is found in cross veins the heaviest being disclosed at the intersection of the fissures and the cross ledges such as is instanced at the ophir now being extensively and successfully operated by a salt lake company the burrow and the utah spur on the gold belt and along the parallel gold ledges which are strong str but not unusually unus ally bold in their outcropping cropping out the dirt along the vein always gives numerous colors in a pan or horn while the quartz itself when crushed in a mortar and submitted to test generally yields a long string of the yellow metal and m mill ill runs have always been more than satisfactory although so far V abt aw A 7 A Q it 5 W A ni aa 14 7 1 W 7 V Y V PANNING FOR GOLD ON THE CREOLE DUMP STATELINE pretty littlehorn little Hown of stateline Stat eline is probably the most extensively developed property in the camp this is strictly a gold mine and the different workings have demonstrated the permanency of the deposit and in its tunnels dinzes shafts and cross cuts fine bodies of gold quartz of excellent milling values have been blocked out across the gulch and a short distance up the canyon is the johnny previously mentioned while in the same locality is the aggie D in the workings of which important disclosures have been reported oblate of late and in this connection numerous other properties of more than ordinary promise might be mentioned would space permit it not being the intention of the writer at this time to go into minute detail concerning the hundreds of valuable properties in this promising gold and silver camp stateline Stat eline is easily accessible and is devoid of those rugged and precipitous characters I 1 no large runs have as yet been made the attempt made two years ago by inexperienced men to reduce stateline Stat eline ores by means of a little coffee mill resulted in a temporary black eye to the camp while no running streams add to the attractions tr of still it is not wanting in its water resources as shallow wells driven in the main or branch gulches always yield an inexhaustible supply of the necessary fluid sufficient in quantity for mining milling and culinary purposes As was the case in its early history state line is not now an isolated camp as it is now partially environed by districts of excellent repute to the south is pikes diggings claimed by some to be encompassed by the boundary lines of stateline Stat eline district it is here that we fine the deer trail coffey group the amethyst the wild dutchman and numerous other producers many of which aarein the hands of big mining operators while on the west is eagle valley district within the lines of which are many mines some of which are being extensively developed and which give promise at no distant day of rivaling older mines in other portions of the west in point of productiveness ti veness it is the intention of THE REVIEW w at a later day to give a more exhaustive of stateline Stat eline and adjoining camps suffice it this time however to say that the stars foretell that this section is destined to rank as one of the great gold producing portions of the great west in the very near future
