Show THE CHARGE AGAINST CULMER He Hadnt Taken a Drink Which Gives the tie to the News Scribbler Seeing in last nights News another one of its remarkable statements which accuses ac-cuses Mr Will Culmer with having been drunk on the occasion of the flag proceedings pro-ceedings on the Fourth a DEMOCRAT reporter re-porter called on Mr Culmer this morning morn-ing and finding him in a perfectly sober and normal condition of mind he was asked about the truth of the statement in the News He said Neither I nor my brother G F had taken a drink of liquor that day I have lived for seventeen years a neighbor to Mr Nicholson and other scribes connected with the Deseret News and on last Saturday I was associated with Mayo Sharp several committees and met a number of the employes of the News office who will state that I was perfectly sober I would like to say further that after the adjournment of the meeting at the Walker House G F Culmer and myself my-self started home and when at the Wells corner on Main street we stopped our conveyance and looked back at the large crowd gathering in front of the Z C M I Mayor Sharp came to my brother GF and said he feared some trouble and requested G F to go back and endeavor to disperse the crowd which he complied with AVhile waiting for him to return I hitched my horse in front of the News office and engaged in a pleasant conversation with the old gentleman gen-tleman in charge There is no truth in the slur of my being intoxicated |
