Barbara Adamson, 18, 1941 graduate of South high school, won the $50 scholarship given by the Sugar-house Sugar-house Post No. 65 of the American Ameri-can Legion, with her essay on "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity." Dr. Charles A. Smith, faculty member of South, is chairman of the post scholarship committee. This scholarship, believed to be the only one of its kind in the nation, na-tion, was started last year with an annual award. The scholarship is offered to students with a good high school scholarship record and who makes an outstanding contribution contri-bution in some phase of Americanism. American-ism. Dr. George Thomas, former president pres-ident of the University of Utah, selected a faculty committee to judge the essays. Miss Adamson is now enrolled in the University in a pre-nursing course. Both boys and girls are urged to try for the American Legion scholarship. |
