Show UTAH GENIUS. The Glorious Little Mare Made Immortal by Utah Art. Nkw York, Jan. 1. A dinner was giyen for Robert Bonner last night at the Fifth Avenue Hotel by C. W. Kellogg Kel-logg and Peter C. Kellogg, at which a number of the most prominent trotting men and breeders of the countiy were present. The dinner furnished the opportunity op-portunity for the presentation to Mr. Bonner of the beautiful statuette of his fast mare Sunol, which was bought with the subscriptions of a large number num-ber of representative breeders of trotting trot-ting horses for presentation to Mr. Bonner in token of their appreciation of his active efforts in the encouragement encourage-ment of the breeding of the highest forms of trotting stock. The committee commit-tee in charge decided that a statuette of Sunol, who holds the fastest record of any of Mr. Bonner's boraes, would be most suitable. The statuette, which is of pure eil-ver eil-ver and of exquisite workmanship, was designed by C. E. Dailin ot Salt Lake city, whose work attracted much attention atten-tion at the World's fair, and represents repre-sents the speedy mare hitched to an old fashioned, high wheeled sulky and driven by Charles Marvih. Sunol, whose record is 2:08i is by Electioneer out of Dame Winnie. The testimonial was presented to Mr. Bonner by Joseph C. Sioley, on behalf of the subscribers, in a short and graceful grace-ful speech. In responding to it Mr. Bonner spoke feelingly of his high appreciation ap-preciation of the gift and the motives prompting it. Toasts, speeches, discussions discus-sions of trotters and the new form of sulky followed and continued until a late hour. |
