Show QUARTERLY TOINE conference TRENCE of the ladies relief societies of the weber stake of zion i the quarterly conference of the relief societies of the weber stake of zion met at the ogden tabernacle at 10 am today to day sister jane S richards presiding apostle P F D richards prest D H peery counselor middleton sister eliza B R snow smith dent of the consolidated relief so cleties of the church and sister E B wells editor of the comans womans er exponent and many of the officers of the branch societies in the stake were present the usual musical exercises were rendered and elder C P F middleton off offered cred the opening prayer the minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted sister richards and sister brown counselor to the first named made preliminary remarks explaining the object of the gathering and expressing pleasure at having the eriv privilege c e of participating participating I in the proc proceedings eells of t the he occasion sister E R snow smith addressed the conference ging an interesting account of her late visit to the south especially st george she expressed great pleasure at the general healthy condition of ife societies and the good work they were performing among the saints she alluded feelingly to the affectionate sentiment that prompted the members of the societies of wc weber stake and others to prepare the excellent party that was wiz given at ogden on the late annive anniversary of her birthday she felt gra grateful arsa e I u y I f for or the good feeling thus exhibited the speaker exhorted the sisters to dili diligence gence in the performance of all their duties and to give special attention to tho the proper training of the child children ken apostle F D richards spoke in terms of the highest commendation of the good work that was being done by the sisters Sister sand and alluded t to the fact of their labors being greatly appreciated by the bishops and and other brethren iio ilo conden condemned ined the action of those parents profess sing 11 19 to bo be latter day saints who s sent cut their children to sectarian schools explaining the evils fl flowing from such a course he alluded t to the attitude of bitter opposition opposition that was wis being exhibited toward the church by the denominations throughout the country and yet the children of saints are ire sent to their schools to be taught the speaker read an account fronle rc re made by the prophet joseph smith in which lie spoke of the saints migrating to the rocky mountains the speaker also alsides des bribed some of the persecutions through which the sainta saints passed in the earlier days of the church sister E EB B wells next addressed the conference following up the leading subject of the proper education and aid training of the young she also related some very interesting reminiscences regarding the experiences perien ces of the saints in nauvoo president pecery heartily endorsed the sentiments of the previous arkers speakers regarding the young people p e it was of the most vital importance that they should bo be properly reared and taught he did not know of anything that should receive a larger shara of the attention odthe of the people than this in the course of his remarks he touched up on the approaching old folks excursion cur sion on which occasion lie hoped all would seek to make the veterans as happy and comfortable as possible the meeting adjourned for the afternoon session at which time the tho reports representing the cond condition of the societies of the stake were to be resented and read bishop bishop hammond dismissed by prayer |
