Show oo , MAM CHINESE STUDENTS HERE Now York, April C( Six hundred aud fifty Chinese students- are now enrolled In tho colleges and universities universi-ties of the United States, according to Y. S. Tsao of Yale, secretary of the Chinese Students' Alliance. Of thpse, 323 aro in universities, 72 In profes- slonal schools and the remainder In smaller colleges. -Now York state has the largest number, 151. Massachusetts follows with 93; Illinois with 90, Pennsylvania Pennsylvan-ia has 35; Michigan 32; Wisconsin 31 and California 24. With the exception of the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico thore Is a Chinese student in every state. Institutions Jiaving the largest number num-ber of Chinese are: Cornell, 50; Columbia. 37-c Illinois, 37; Wisconsin, 29; Michigan, 25; Harvnrd, 24; Chicago. Chi-cago. 22; Yale, 16 and Pennsylvania, 1G. Kwang Tung province sends 251, while Cheklang iollows with 45. Fifty-two Fifty-two students are women and they attend at-tend Wellesley, Wells, Radcliffo and other colleges. More than 200 of tho students are supported by the gbvernment, each receiving about $900" a year. Nearly half of the students have been pre-' pared for college by missionary institutions insti-tutions The average age of the young women students Is 25, that of the yourig men 24. |
