That short telegram from Congressman Con-gressman Granger, Tuesday, tells the story of Cache Valley's first dfeense project, a project that will bring .approximately $3,000,000 to the county in defense money. Champ, Chairman, Cnmittee on ' ; Military Projects of the Logan Chamber of Commerce, following ; the reported announcement at i Washington by Congressman Walter Wal-ter K. Granger of the decision of the War Department to locate a s storage dump for incendiary bombs in- Cache Valley and following a long distance telephone conversation conver-sation this morning with the Congressman. "The announcement at Washington Wash-ington today by Congressman Walter Wal-ter K. Granger of the decision to locate a plant for the storage of incendiary bombs in Cache Valley Val-ley culminates an effort begun ! early in November to interest the War Department in establishing such a project here, following the earlier decision to hold in abeyance abey-ance the location and construe- , tion of a military cantonment in the Intermountain West. As in the case of the cantonment, the Committee has, after the original reconnaissance, submitted reports to the Chemical Warfare Service on two possible sites which in the original reconnaissance appeared to be adaptable for this project. "We are deeply indebted to Congressman Con-gressman Granger for his immediate immed-iate and effective assistance in presenting this project to the War Department, and we congratulate con-gratulate him upon the apparent successful conclusion of negotiations negotia-tions which he has carried on. for us at Washington. We are also appreciative of the attitude toward to-ward the Cache Valley location ot other Federal and State officials who have known of the negotiations negotia-tions and to our friends In other Northern Utah communities whose assistance and support we have had at all times. "It is not possible or appropriate for us to release any information or opinions concerning the location, loca-tion, size, or nature of the construction con-struction involved. Suffice it to say, we have understood an expenditure ex-penditure of $3,000,000.00 is anticipated, anti-cipated, which may involve the winter employment of a large number of ur people on construction construc-tion adapted to much of the labor availrble during the winter season in the Valley. A permanent maintenance main-tenance payroll of several hundred men may also be Involved. We pnticipate that this available labor as well as the available housing facilities were factors in the decision de-cision announced at Washington (Continued on page four) Commenting on the project, Mayor Ma-yor William Evans, said. "The probability of securing this project pro-ject has been known for some time, and a local committee has done considerable work in furnishing furnish-ing the department complete data in an endeavor to have it located here. We feel it is the type of project that will furnish considerable consid-erable work for local workman, and also will mean the permanent employment of many people after its completion."
