Show virginia planning tree planting along roads plans for beautifying the highways oi of virginia were discussed at a meeting called by gov narry harry IT byrd at the request of tho the garden clubs ot of virginia and attended by many prominent women from various sections it was decided that the garden clubs would appoint a committee to coop co op orate erate with another committee to be ba appointed by governor byrd and that these two bodies would formulate a program tor for preserving the trees and shrubs already growing along the state highways and also for planting others it was emphasized that the state elate will not be asked to pay tor for planting thi the trees william extension forester at the virginia polytechnic institute suggested that nursery shrubs for planting along the highways be raised at the state farm by the convicts and this proposal met with considerable favor another suggestion which was well received was that the fifty or more motorcycle police operating through out virginia under the division ot of motor vehicles bo be especially instructed to keep an eye out for violators ot of the law forbidding promiscuous cutting of shrubs and trees |
