Winning the 'tournament would have eiven the Helperites a trip to Stockton, to participate in the regional tournament. Eldon Rachele started on the mound for Helper in the Brigham game and did excellent work but his team-mate- s failed to give him the necessary support. Brigham's first three runs that came in the third inning were all unearned duo to the loose playing of Helper's infielders. Out of the 9 Brig-haruns 4 of them were earned. The Helper boys had numerous opportunities to push over runs ' but lacked in the ability to come through in the pinches. Honor must be paid to Rachele, Mascara and VanNatta for their playing in the Brigham game. Eldon Rachele performed well on tlie mound and kept Brighams hits well scattered. Nick Mascara,, Helper stortstop, gave the best of defensive work performance and showed his ability in hitting by getting two hits out of four trips to. the plate. One of them, a home run, and the other a two i bagger. Bob VanNatta handled the first base duties in professional style and his relief pitching was outstanding. Out of the nine batters that faced VanNatta six of them went out by the strike-ou- t route. Stanley Litizzette, Helper right fielder, led the Helperites in hitting, getting three safeties out of five trips to the plate. After playing a loose game of baseball in the first day's play the Helper boys came back the second day of the tournament to defeat the strong Bingham crew to the tune of 20 to 11. VanNatta, pitching for Helper, had the Bingham boys at his igmn Helper's annual tennis tourna-- J which is being sponsored by the American Legion got on 4 h $1 week to a flying iasts have entered and a lively tourney is expected. He was chosen the most outstanding player of the tournament. This choice is based on playing ability as well as sportsmanship. Bobbie was well deserving of the award. His playing ability in the two games that ne played was far superior to other players in first the tournament. In the game with Brigham he played first base and gave a real performance. He also finished pitching the last two innings and out of the nine men that faced him he struck out six. During the second day's play Bob tackled the pitching duties and again was the sparkling light of the tournament. In the seven innings he pitched, he struck out 15 of the Bingham sluggers. Bob was officially at bat 10 times during the tourna-- j ment and out of his 10 trips, he managed to hit safely 4 times one of them a triple. Nick Mascara, Helper shortstop, was another player that received a great deal of attention from the fans and officials of the tournament. He gave two exhibitions of baseball.
