Show JiKET GROWERS A XI) M AX l" FACTE R E RS. Beet sugar manufacturers, like the oil industry, may be forced to produce pro-duce their own beets and sell direct to the consumer. Beet growers are organized into local, state and national bodies, and manufacturers are organized. The aim of one is to get the beets for the factories at as low a price as possible. The aim of the growers is to get as much for their beets as they can secure by union. If the beet growers demand a fifty-fifty fifty-fifty division of profits, without sharing losses, the manufacturers are driven to growing beets. The sugar industry must remair fairly cooperative as between beet growers and sugar manufacturers. The farmers should grow the beets utilize the by-products, enrich their soils with crop rotation, under fair-price fair-price contracts. The sugar factories must improve manufacturing economics, improve distribution of product and maintain fair prices to consumers or both the beet growers, the manufacturers and the public suffer. |
