Participants vying for All-American status are judged on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiasm, voice projection and overall crowd appeal. These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA Special Events. Mckall Mclntosh, Kristen Thompson, Alisia Childs, Tyree Christenson, Hannah Christenson and Carly Anderson each received the All-American Nominee award. These outstanding individuals displayed strength in one of the following categories: motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, dance or leadership. These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA Special Events. Congratulations to all of the GVHS cheerleaders for their accomplishments at this camp. azette McKall received the All-American Team Award. Karen Bartholomew Johnson is opening a new dance studio in Manti. She will be offering classes in classical ballet and jazz for ages three to adult. The classes will begin the first week in September. Karen is an experienced teacher having taught at C & C Academy in South Jordan, Clayton Productions in Midvale and Dansworks in Cedar City. She also directed a studio in Mesquite, Nevada. Ballet is Karen's area of expertise, but she is trained in jazz, modern and tap. She has attended dance workshops across the United States receiving training from many noted professionals. For two years she performed with the SUU ballroom team, touring in the West and Alaska. She was a 2002 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Southern Utah University receiving her bachelor's degree in dance performance. Upon graduating she was a nominee for the academic award as Outstanding Student in Dance. Karen grew up in Ephraim and graduated from Manti High School. She is currently the assistant drill team advisor for the Templareettes. She is excited to bring her talents back home. Dance is extremely beneficial to all students. It helps a student develop physically, mentally and emotionally. Physically, a dancer develops strength, flexibility, and stamina. Mentally, dance has been proven to sharpen a student's learning skills and enhance perception, observation and concentration. Emotionally, a dancer can gain poise, independence, self-esteem and an ability to deal with stress. Students who enroll in ballet classes ourtesy Photo will be introduced to the basic French dance vocabulary. They will work on proper placement of the body, rhythm, timing and music skills. Jazz students will learn a basic jazz vocabulary. They will gain coordination, rhythm and style in a fun class environment.
