the County Court of Salt Lake County for the pur pur- purpose purpose purpose pose of arranging and submitting to the Council an equitable agreement 1 for the purchase by the county of one one- one half halt half the land situate at the corner of First South and Second East streets and known as the Little property whereon it was decided to erect a Joint city and county building conditional upon said arrangement being effected with said County Court beg leave to report as al follows We have conferred with members of the County Court and find them averse to locating the county portion of said building upon the Little corner for the reason that one of their chief incentives incentives incentives tives to the idea of a joint building was that it would afford them a loca- loca location location tion for their business nearer the heart of the city and that the Little corner is no nearer the center of business than the present County Court House Con Consequently they much prefer that the joint building be erected upon the City Hall site corner of First South and First East streets because it is nearer the center of business and therefore more convenient for the general public and i is on the State Road at the head of which will be erected the Capitol buildings of the Territory Your committee after an extended discussion of the question and the most thorough consideration of all points involved are of the opinion In view of all the circumstances that the present City Hall site is the preferable pre pro t one for the location of the joint building We consider that the present City Hall site its proximity to ines its location on the state road and the further fact that the quantity of land will be for all purposes e es if the height of the building is i in- in increased increased in increased creased to five or six stories torie which at first was not contemplated but which in our opinion will make it a grander and more imposing structure than to have bave
