Show I f DAIRYING I; f TWENTY DAIRY SUGGESTIONS. t I The Dairy Division of the Dcpart- H 4 mcnt of Animal Industry has recently issued the following suggestions to H dairymen: H The Cows. H i. Hjavc the herd examined ab least K twice n- year by a skilled' veterinarian. H Promptly remove animals suspected of being in bad 'health. Never add 1 (an animal to the herd until certain it M ms free from disease, particularly tu- , Jjcrculosis. H 2. Never allow a cow to be excited H by fast driving, abuse, loud talking H or unnecessary disturbance; do not MM expose her to cold or storms more' WM than necessary. m 3. Cloan the entire body of the cow H daily; hair in the region of the udder H should bo kept short by clipping. H 4. Do not allow any strong-flavor- H cd food, like garlic, cabbage, or tur- H nips, to be eaten, except immediately fl after milking. Changes in feed should H be mado gradually. H S.'' Provide fresh pure water, in H abundance, easy of access and not H too cold. H The Stables. H 6. Dairy cattle should be kept, in" H a stable, preferably without cellar or H storage loft, and where no other ani- H mals arc housed. H 7. Use thent only for handling, storing or delivering deliver-ing milk. 12. To clean dairy utensils flsc only pure water. First rinse the utensils uten-sils in warm water. Then wash "inside "in-side and out in hot water in which a cleansing material has been dissolved, and rinse again. Sterilize with boiling boil-ing water or steam. Then keep inverted in-verted in pure air and sun, if possible, until wanted for use. |
