Show B A BEAR RIVER VALLEY FARM. H One of the largest irrigated farms H in Utah is thnl belonging to the Key- H mimic Wire Company and managed H h Mr. Mfctthew Bacr. The farm m s situated a few miles west of Tre- monlon and consists of some one B thousand acres under irrigation. We K. had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Beer BK- last week and found him to be nn H educated and progressive farmer of H the modern type. He is a graduate, m cif an Agricultural School in Germany H and1 his ideas along the lines of seion- H tific agriculture arc in harmony with m the views prcsonled by our Farmers' H Institute workers. Mr. Baer grows m i-u pens for fodder for his live slock m and to gather nitrogen for his soil. WK He grows lucerne but never allows the crop fflq'njunn the same piece of ground for inOTcTliJtn 2 or 3 years. In seeding it ho WThls with a nurse crop, oats or ""jby (he jirefgrs barley)' and thusffips the uSttnd in constant use. 7E has a mndhitfc for installing tile drains ana the whole farm fs being undcjulnaincd. One of the most wonderful yields we have ev-cr recorded was reported by Mr. Bacr who secured yi bushels of oats per acre on 222 acres. |
