Time was when a girl could catch her boss eye while she took a letter. But what chance does she have when remote control does her dictation? One of the answers lies in a big new office building here, the headquarters of (the Standard-VacuuOil Co. The building houses what is believed to be the 'worlds best modern dictacommunition and inter-offic- e cations system. This electronic system has 266 dictating stations which feed material to 28 recorders. And it can be expanded to 400 stations and 40 recording machines. Here is how it works: An executive can pick up a special telephone from any office in the building, press a button and dictate a letter. A specially designed switchboard in a central transcription room automatically selects a free recorder, which takes the message. Then a girl from the transcription pool plays back the record and types the material, all without seeing who dictated it. She doesnt even get to deliver the typewritten letter. This is done by pneumatic tube which sends letters, mail and office supplies to all departments. found a , But the girls have way to , make remote control less remote. They meet men through the companys recreation program. Some have caught admiring male glances by sun bathing on the - And, said - Margaret grounds. Nugent, supervisor of the transcription center: r As long as an office has cute girls, the men wont stay away.
