So in case there are others of you who don't know what was going on this summer among the younger set, we woulJ like to run a brief recap of the program which is just closing. start with, there was a To .program for swell baseball boys from 8 years on up, with 15 organized teams and three city leagues. In addition, there was American Legion baseand Peaches games to fill in ball, with. all-st- ar Since the program started the last week in .May, this newspaper has published 102 box scores, weve probably missed some, and thats a lot of baseball. In addition weve published 52 pictures of individual baseball players and. teams, and thats a lot of shutter snapping. ; Junior golf was organized this year as a part of the summer recreation program. It was popular with boys and girls alike and I 'was down at the golf course one morning when 44 of them were slinging clubs at one time. Bridges In this issue youll find a st&ry of the crafts and arts program held every week during the summer and a brief mention of the Teen Age Canteen which was open every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening during the summer months and will continue to operate during the fall and winter months as well. Its all part of the city recreation program. m . This is all in addition to the very extensive MIA program under the direction of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In their program there was junior and senior softball for the boys, junior and senior divisions for the girls. Also included in the program was volley ball, tennis, horse shoe pitching, golf, most of the events winding up in division and playoffs. Iast but not least, there was a fine cub scout, boy scout and explorer scout program complete with hikes and outings, as well as brownie and girl scout activities and camps. A record number visited the girls home in Box Elder canyon during the summer months. Fill the intervals in between these activi- ties with fishing and camping trips with parents, family outings, vacations and picnics, and I believe youll agree that the kids had a fairly busy summer.
