By Melinda Sowerby Primary elections will be held next Tuesday. The voters this year have a wide choice of candidates from which to choose, from candidates leaning to the far left to those with conservative leanings. The sad thing about primaries is that very few people bother to cast a ballot. Ive heard reports that the number of voters who turn out even on November 2 is diminishing year by year, but the turnout for the primary elections is notoriously low. Much of this is probably due to the fact that voters figure that they can wait until November to make their choice. They figure that the November election is the only really important one anyway, so why bother with the primaries? The primaries are important though, because through the primaries the field is narrowed. With so few people bothering to take the time to vote in the primaries, your vote ... your one vote ... can make the difference for or against a candidate. Just think of that, you can help the candidate of your choice get one step closer to the office he desires. It is an important election and the candidates need all the support they can get from you. next Tuesday, as you settle back in your easy chair for a relaxing evening and think, I ought to go vote, get up and do it rather than talking about it. Remember your elected officials still serve you and if there is any corruption in government or leaders who arent doing their job, its because you didnt cast your vote for the person who would have done the job honestly and efficiently.
