Hufbauer, of Sait Lake City, is here this week arranging for the construction of the buildings for the Owens Valley Lumber Company. Work will commence as soon as the material arrives and the new company com-pany expects to be ready for business busi-ness within thirty dayi. Owens Val-'ey Val-'ey Times. $ Karl Carlton, one of the owners of the Beaver County News, is in Milford looking over property interests in-terests here. Mr. Carlton was formerly for-merly county supervisor of Riverside county, California. He likes this country very much and it would not be surprising if he decided to become be-come a Milford citizen. S ? George T. Larson, who has been teaching manual training at the high school the past year, has made application to join the officers corps of the citizen's soldier camp at San Francisco. Mr. Larson is a good workman and has made many friends in Milford who will wish him well in soldier camp or elsewhere he may go. S S Joe Wirz has leased his ranch on the project for two years and went to his ranch in the Imperial Valley, California last week. Before going Mr. Wirz expressed himself as well pleased with his project ranch and especially with the excellent stand of alfalfa which he has there. He has contracted to have the place fenced and well taken care of in his absence. Zozaya Bros.. California dairymen who purchased 120 acres of land on the project last year, are improving the place with sheds, feed racks, etc. One of the brothers is here superintending the work. They expect ex-pect to ship their stock and other dairy equipment here soon after the first cutting of alfalfa is ready to feed, the latter part of June or the first of July. There are still some good properties proper-ties for lease by the Delta Land & Water Company. Good stands of alfalfa al-falfa are awaiting lease contracts. The company has divided the project pro-ject into leasing units of from 40 to 160 acres and a piece of good stand and a piece that may require re-seeding re-seeding are included together. Any reseeding or extra work is paid for j by the company. Apply to the Delta Land & Water company and select j Mrs. Paul Miner and children are visiting friends at Delta for a few days. E. Adkin, who underwent an operation at the L. D. S. Hospital in Salt Lake City is getting along nicely. ? ? Bishop W. J. Burns is In Salt Lake City attending the conference and incidentally attending to county school matters. (5 George Bradley, living north of Beaver, took out a load of lumber this week to make some improvements improve-ments on his ranch. ? Bishop W. J. Burns went to Salt Lake City Wednesday night to confer con-fer with state officials regarding local lo-cal school matters. 8 S Hal Stephens, manager for the Milford Lumber Company went to Salt Lake City Wednesday night on business and pleasure bent. $? Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Adkin's mother, moth-er, is here making a visit and taking care of her little graddaughter Betty Bet-ty while her mother is ai the hospital. hos-pital. S Hon. J. F. Tolton was among the passengers to Salt Lake City Wednesday Wed-nesday night where he goes to attend at-tend the annual conference of the L. D. S'. church. S $ Ray Barton, formerly cashier of the First National Bank of Beaver, is in Milford on business this week. Mr. Barton will probably, go to Salt Lake City before returning to his home in Beaver. $ S E. H. Street, cashier of the Milford Mil-ford State Bank, has been elected ; by the board of directors of the newly new-ly organized Milford Valley Farm Loan Association to the office of secretary sec-retary and treasurer. $ E. F. Burke, of Salt Lake City, general agent of the Bankers' Life Company, of Des Moines, Iowa, was in Milford this week on business for his company. He hopes to establish an agency in this section of Utah. S 8 Next Sunday is Easter. A special meeting of the settlers of the project pro-ject has been announced to be held at the Penn of Prairie school house in celebration of the day. In addition ad-dition to the program of songs there is to be a basket lunch and a good time is anticipated. Ladies of the Farm Bureau, we learn, are responsible respon-sible for the event which assures perfection in every detail. $ S J. M. Mourey, of Garrison purchased pur-chased from the Milford Lumber Co. this week a bill of lumber for extensive ex-tensive improvements on his home at Garrison. Large porches are to be added both to the front and to the back of his residence and many conveniences and comforts to the interior in-terior arrangement. Garrison is on the Sunset Highway a few miles this side of Baker, Nevada, but on the Utah side of the state line. Mr. Mourey reports considerable activity activ-ity in building as well as in farming operation in his section of the country. coun-try. 5 Joe Fleming, the "dry farmer" mentioned in "Pollyann's" writeup of the Milford Valley in last week's issue of the News, arrived on the train from California last Friday morning where he had spent the winter. Mr. Flemming states that there are a number of people from Orange and Ventura counties who are planning to come to this part of Utah this spring. He sent out a number of copies of the News with the "Pollyann" article marked for their perusal. Mr. Flemming is enthusiastic en-thusiastic over the future of the southern part of Utah. $ It is evident that the practice that the Milford team gave the Bees of Salt Lake last week did the latter base ball artists no harm. They won their initial game of the season in the coast league schedule on their home diamond last Tuesday by shutting shut-ting out the Beavers of Portland by a score of 5 to 0, Kirmyer pitching. He is a new recruit of the Bee staff and It is said that he twirls a stinger. He struck out seven of the Beavers and pulled himself out of several tight places by timely strikeouts. On the same day Los Angeles defeated Oakland by a 5 to 1 score. |
