Show Page Two Weber's Stage Now Finished WEBER HERALD With the exception of a few minor details Weber's st:ige is now finished, f'-nks to the untiring efforts of Prof. T. Earle Pardoe. The stage has been one of Prof. Pardoo's constructive plans for improving facilities at Weber ever since he has been connected with Weber as a teacher, and the student body appreciates beyond expression the way in which he has unremittingly worked for it. The school play of this year was the fourth school play to be coached for Weber by I'rof. Pardoe. The proceeds in former years have gone to the Board of Education. This year the proceeds will go toward defraying the expenses of the stage. This, in addition to $175 given for this purpose by the Board of Trustees, has already been spent in scenery, etc. The faculty and class plays, which ?re also to be coached by Prof. Pardoe, will net enough returns for full payment of the "thespian field." In reality, therefore, Prof. Pardoe has really made the money for the j-chool which has now been invested in the stage. And what is more, the stage is the best amateur stage in the city. Five complete "sets" of scenery are ready to use. Three of these are outdoor .scenes and the other two are box sets. So from the first we will not be handicapped for scenes. The cur-lain is a reproduction of a scene from Ogden canyon and was painted by Utah's famous painter, Amos Larson. Men who know Quality Buy Here. Where Do You Buy? THURSDAY, JAN. 31, 1918. NO. 9. B. Y. U. STUDENTS SUPPORT "STRONGHEART" PROFS. PARDOE AND DIXON ARE ROYAL ENTERTAINERS The recent trip of the 'Strongheart' cast to Provo will be fond recollec-.ions for many days. 'And the support rendered by the B. Y.U. students will be a kindred remembrance, .lie appreciation of which we hope to je abje to manifest should the B. Y. J. favor us with a visit of their play. The trip to Provo was indeed one j pleasure. Under the captaincy ot r'rof. Pardoe, assisted by Prof. Dixon, .he cast set sail on the D. & R. G. Vednesday, the 16th, at 3:30, arriv-ng in the college city about 6:30. ili3 majority of the "bunch" tied up .it the Roberts hotel, noted for its .ileasant, home-like atmosphere. The iirls were the guests for the evening, jf Prof. Dixon's parents. The eve-ling's entertainment consisted of a jig supper at the home and a theater party at the Columbia, followed by ;he usual refreshments. Thursday morning the crowd injected a number of classes and laboratories at the B. Y. U. and furnished a program in devotional. Remarks by Profs. Pardoe and Dixon, Andrew Kasius, and E. L. Wilkinson and readings by Mary Woolley, received the applause of those present. Remarks from Pres. Brimhall and the ringing of his song, "Old Glory," by the students were inspiring to the visitors. By the consent and under the direction of Dr. Hyde, members of the cast enjoyed an interesting and educational trip thru the State Mental hospital. Harry West was the only one whose sanity was questioned. A decrease in the enrollment of Weber v-as narrowly averted. "Strongheart" graced the "boards" of College hall Thursday night. Judging by the applause, along with small epistles of flattery received by some of the cast, and the popularity of the boys with B. Y. U. girls, the production took well. Even "Wood-iow" escorted a college co-ed around. Prof. Pardoe and the cast take this weak means of thanking the B. Y. U. faculty, student body and the above mentioned, in addition, J. B. Sumsion, Carl Swenson, Carl Christensen, our former student, Dave Peterson, L. H. Peterson, Miss Zelda Kirkham oh. what's the use, if this continued, it would include half of the Provo directory. Anyway we thank any and all who contributed to the success and entertainment of the cast. In an article on the production, the B. Y. U. paper, "White and Blue," after commenting on the play and Players, says: We hope tc entertain the students of Weber in the near future -with "Green Stockings." Let's hope they are properly filled we mean the chairs, ir the auditorium. Orla Shurtliff would like to know who this guy "Alma Mater" is. WORK. GUARANTEED. HANDY LOCATION. If you have noticed we Seniors have been keeping the trail hot to Miss Barlow's desk, and we are proud to inform the crowd that we now head the list on the bulletin board for Thrift Stamps. But, anyway, you know thrift always has been our middle name Just last Thursday our friend Doug Leishman showed his constancy, and won in extempo. While this typical winter weather lasts, we have decided to give a progressive bob party which, of course, will meet with the unanimous approval of the class. Some bob parties given this year have been a regular hiss and a by-word, but we intend to make ours a rip roaring success. R. W. SOPH RESURRECTION And it came to pass in the eventful days of the year 1918, being under the rule of Owen F., that the class of '20 was the real live wire of the great institution of Weber. The said class was held up in ridicule among the assembled educators to the chagrin of Young, Hardy and Company. With the coming cf the deep snows came a surprise to Weber, for behold the banner of the Sophs was flung alcft announcing the resur-rfdtion of the said corporation. Now, fellow students be patient, for the magnitude of the proposed activities would astound the Kaiser himself. One of the first things to happen will be the class play. We are going to take advantage of the season's snows and have some lively bob-parties, skating, etc. It is very essential that every Soph come to class meetings so we can plan our campaigns. It is up to us to help liven the school and we will do it. S. R. FRESHMEN TALENT You didn't really mean to say that the Freshman class couldn't do anything, did you? Well take a look at our Freshmen on the first team roll the Davis huskies on the floor. Claude is making a name for the Freshman class and we want him to know we are back of him. As you all know, the big dance we were going to stage the twenty-fifth was postponed on account of a basket ball game, but it will come soon. Watch for the date. It will be a land-mark in the history of class '21, and make all other entertainments given by the other classes look so small they will be forgotten. So, everybody, Out! when the time arrives and we will show you what a good time means. -J. E. He Passed "Good night," said Mel, "I've enjoyed myself immensely. "Now, next Sunday night I er expect to pass your house and " "That will be nice. Good night!" And she shut the door. Buehmiflerd CANDY THE BEST IN THE WORLD GREENWELL'S 356 25th STREET : : 2341 WASH.
