Show WASATCH COUNTY COURIER Urban farmland A look at two road-side gardens Jean Croasmun, Courier Staff For 28 years, Douglas Lee has enjoyed fresh tomatoes from the garden outside. his store in Heber. While growing tomatoes in the fertile Heber Valley is no magical Lee’s garden feat, growing anything would seem to be. in the plants warmer and might even afford Lee’s tomatoes a longer growing’ season. Half-way across town is another road- side garden, at Utah Valley College’s Wasatch Campus. State Two kinds of squash, both yellow and zucchini, and Lee’s tomatoes aren’t in a nice, cozy let of lawn. Nor do they receive any benefit from a fancy irrigation system. Lee’s cherry tomatoes are ripening, and fruit trees have just been planted.
