They finally got the respect and praise they deserve with their latest album, The War Within. Catchier rhythms and all around better song writing had critics hailing this as the best metal album of the year. Personally I don't think it's the best, but definitely one of them. 9. It's a beautiful album that most people wish they had the talent to write. 7. 3 Inches of Blood - Advance and Vanquish: What do you get if you throw Iron Maiden, The Darkness, and Cradle of Filth into a blender? The future of metal, that's what. These six Canadian rockers will be as commonly spoken about in the metal 8. The Roots - The Tipping Point: This is one of my personal favorite hip-hop groups, probably because they actually play their own instruments and have great musical talent. The Tipping Point was one of my favorite hip-hoop albums of the year, however not one of their best all around albums. The Roots are always bringing something new to their respective musical genre and music in general. 5. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters: If the fab five from the TV. show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy would've formed a band instead of doing their show, they probably would've been just like the Scissor Sisters. However, they were beat to the punch and the Scissor Sisters are reaping all the benefits. They sound like an even queerer Elton John, mixed in with some Iggy Pop and David Bowie; it's great! 4. Megadeth - The System Has Failed: This album was such a surprise and blessing for the music world and long time fans of Megadeth. Frontman Dave Mustaine suffered a wrist injury that nearly ended his career as a guitar player forever. The time off mixed with the emotions of possible forced retirement must have lit a fire in Mustaine's behind, because this album is a masterpiece. It is possibly the best of his career, and features past-member Chris Poland on guitar. .|i|^.0NLINE RESEARCH. sical genre. Are they metal? Are they prog-rock? Are they classical? Who knows, but whatever they are, they are great. Imagine if Beethoven was alive today, took some members of Dream Theater and took any number of mind altering drugs and you'd have Isis. 1. Duran Duran - Astronaut: Come back of the decade! All the original members back together make music as if they never broke up. This album is as good as any they've ever written in their career. One can only hope they can combat their egos and stay together the second time around. DIAMONDS, etc. 3. Mastodon - Leviathan: What can I say about this album other than amazing. Many music magazines ranked this as the best album of the year and, upon listening, it's hard to make an argument against that statement. Mastodon is also being hailed as the next Metallica. (I would go as far to say at this point they are better.) Metallica hasn't made a great album in years and Leviathan competes with almost anything Metallica's written. 2. Willie Nelson - It Always Will Be: I would never say I am a fan of country music, however I do like me some Willie. Nelson, that is. This album ranks right up there with Stardust as my favorite album Nelson's ever done. It is a remarkable album and probably should've won the Grammy for best country album. But what do I know, it's the only new country album I heard all year. 1. Isis - Panopticon: This is a great band that has flown under the radar and gone almost completely unnoticed.
