This would punish a person by havingbis bim trial incarcerated pending and I don t think for a minute that you can say this is a fundamental principle of A Good Way to Tell democracy by accusing someone and punishing, him without a Quite by accident, I have come onto a fairly reliable way to determine a bad law from a good one. The rule is: The worse the law, the more and better the publicity. This rule has exceptions, of course, but I have noticed that it is accurate in an amazing number of cases. Why is this so? I believe it is because the people basically know what is right and what is wrong, and the politicians know that the people know that the people know right from wrong, so when they pass a bad law or are about to, the propaganda machine praising the bad laws and its proponents is cranked into high speed. A perfect example is the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). For months, months, and months, there have been radio and television ads praising it. They dont explain it in any detail or with any accuracy, of course, they just praise it. Over and over, the people are bombarded with the ads praising OSHA. Some call this 1 agree with propaganda. Others call it the politicans that the people should be told about OSHA. Where I disagree is that I think the people should be told ALL about it. They should be told that it was passed with only thirty, minutes disucssion on the floor of the house on December 29, 1970. They should also be told how many millions of their tax dollars it has cost to implement its huge bureaucracy. And how much it has added to the cost of production and construction, and how many businesses it has closed and how many people put out of work. The people should be told how this law gives the federal agents the power to accuse, judge, and Fine business operators without due process of law, and how it gives labor union goons tremendous sabotage conviction. Bennett Peterson argued for the amendment by indicating we are living in a time of change, where people are highly mobile and where a man can move very quickly without telling anybody The where he is going. commission of a crime by that person becomes something that affects people all over. Were not talking about that great old word liberty as much as we are talking about the protection of persons where something has come into this mans record to show that he cant be trusted as others can be trusted. So I think weve got to temper this in the language of the liberal with the g. . But does it seem strange to you that these points are. not brought out in the ads? It is either strange or planned. Just remember, the next time you hear an advertisement praising OSHA, it is your tax money being spent to tell you how to think. And when you hear or see such an ad, be sure and explain it to your friends with you. Then we will take another step toward breaking the back of the politicians propaganda machine. If we have a situation where the evidence is strong and the presumption is strong, why dont they put him in prison according to the established procedures?, OConnell said he had been to trial many times as a legal defender where the prosecutor would want to get the offender off the streets but the judge would let him out: Instead of setting the preliminary hearing soon, the prosecutor would set the preliminary hearing two or three months away. Then, when they would come to the Vince Walton, bail bondsman who opposes Proposition 2, says, "I think anyone's entitled to bail until they are proven guilty on any other previous charge." here today and gone tomorrow. It is just too easy for society to bear that burden. I think that with the changes of the way we live justifies our changing this aspect of dealing with persons who have committed crimes before.
