Show Hi . . I I I I IncidentG. Continued. October 6th. Meeting with elder George Q. Cannon, who was publishing a paper in San Francisco Fran-cisco and presiding over the California Cali-fornia Mission, he at once called the elders together at his house and held a little conference or , council meeting, where it was decided t?iat elder D. P. Rainy preside over the San Francisco conference and that the elders who were going to the Sandwich Islands visit the various branches of the Church and preach, until they could procure their outfits and not go into the mines to work to obtain means to carry them to their field of labor, &c I was to visit the W&tsonville branch, where the saints of the branch readily donated do-nated the means to take me to Honolulu, the Capitol of the Sandwich Sand-wich Islands. I returned to San Francisco to obtain passage on some vessel, but found that none would sail for several days. Prest Cannon called a council meeting where it was decided that elder Rainy and I should visit 'all the Sectarian Priests in the city and strive to get them to believe our , . testimony and ask for the Privilege to preace in their Churches, and if we were refused, to tell them we wauld visit their flocks and teach them the truth, &c The next , morning we set out to fill our mis sion. Some of the clergy we could not find. However we found two, a Mr. J3rierly and a Mr.Thomae. Brierly treated us very well and invited us to give him another call, but he said as we were about to leave, "J do not wish you any iuccess. I Thomas was bitter and justified ; McLane in the strongest terms for J- killing Parley P. Pratt and said, T 'The example of Abraham is no example for me to go by, He ; il utterly refused to hear us or let us : y preach in his chnrch. W how- , ever, boro our testimony to the ' latterday work and that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were '1 good men and servants of God, &c We invited these clergy to come to our Hall and preach as there were quite a number of Mormons living in the city, and, if he could, to show us wherein we were wrong, and that we would be glad to exchange an error for that .which was true, && Missionary.
