By M. E. CRANDALL, JR. As I read of the achievements of 1923 and the prosperity pros-perity and swift return to normalcy I am wondering if we ; have eyes to see and ears to hear and are preparing ourselves : for the wake of progress that is coming during the new year I that is now upon us. The conditions are here for such a wave of prosperity during the years just ahead of us that the soul must be dead who has no vision to see it unfolding. '. Our sister cities are alert and prepared; this was evi- denced during 1923. i Hardly a day passes that someone does not inquire if I this city is prepared to receive them, are there any houses to rent and lots for sale? What are the opportunities for starting in business there? I Do we want to sit idly by and have, these questions answered an-swered in the negative or do we want to welcome new people into our city and allow them to partake of our hospitality ' and enjoy our beauty? j With the steel plant' rapidly nearing completion if we ' consider the magnitude of industrial growth it will bring we : MUST sense how especially we shall be benefited. Nineteen-twenty-three brought Cedar City, where the iron ore is being mined, such a prosperity as was hardly comprehensible a year ago, even by the most optimistic. At Columbia City, where the coal fields will supply the plant with fuel, a city has sprung up as by magic. ! The company has entered into a contract with the Utah Power & Light company where electric power will be supplied to mine 10,000 tons of coal daily. pcn'd'fiioncy "on'these with Jjjp lerel fn Tn";,'1. ,V so&Si-i of Utah lake as hlsrh njvscn'jMil'io ncros ' . -' ' to the re-1 hi-:'!
