Show POPULAR CHIEF CON superintendent MEETS DEATH IN MINE ACCIDENT A dispatch from eureka tintic gintic on tuesday brought news of an accident at the gemini mine of the chief consolidated soli dated company in which paul hilsdale superintendent of the gemini and grand central mines lost his life and jarnes james hanley foreman was fatally injured the accident occurred when the cage in the gemini shaft on which they were ridin riding was wrecked between the 1300 and 1400 foot levels the accident believed to have been caused by the cage catching 6 on the guides wrecked the carrier dropped drooped mr hilsdale to the 1600 level and threw air hanley in m such a position that he was caught in the timbers of the shaft mr hilsdale was instantly killed and mr hanley so badly injured that he died tuesday even evening irIg at the holy cross hospital salt lake mr hilsdale who is the son in law of walter fitch sr president of the chief consolidated mining company was born thirty five years ago at sauk sank center minn in 1907 on graduating graduation 6 from yale he entered the colorado school of mines from which institution he received his degree of mining engineer in 1912 after engaging in his profession at breckenridge colo and at the greene cananea cananda mine at cananea cananda Ca sonora mexico he came to utah where lie he operated leases at bingham and at eureka when the fitch interests assumed control of the grand central mine mr hilsdale was made superintendent in june 1920 mr lr married miss maud fitch who during the world war drove an ambulance in france as a member of the ann morgan corps he is survived by his widow and two children one by a former marriage his mother and father mr and mrs W C hilsdale and a sister who live in minnesota mr Hils dales parents recently visited him here le leaving avint for their home about three weeks ago known as a brilliant student and as a capable mining b operator mr hilsdale had many man friends and acquaintance s in the state he was a member of the american institute of mining and metallurgical lurg 6 ical engineers 6 and the university club of salt lake funeral services and burial took place in eureka ye yesterday st erday mr hanley had worked in local mines nearly all his life for the past sixteen years lie he has been town councilman at eureka Fu reka last year he completed a term terin as mayor he leaves a wife and three children |
