The lunchtime conversation, apparantly enlivened by a bit of the grape extract...turned to how ski runs were named. It seemed to bother our little group that the Taos has a fw fun names too. Like, there’s “Psycho--Path” for starters. Park City has two that I have stayed away from” .“Widow—Maker” and “The Shaft.” Perhaps the one area that really took the time to name runs properly and with a definite sense of humor, was Snowbird in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon Here we fine clasics like “Organ Grinder”.. the “Big Emma" (named after one of Salt Lake’s and “Caroriginal Madames).. .“Bicarbonate” “ topography involved or with the expected reaction of the unsuspecting recreational skier who happened to encounter the run for the first bonate “Bananas” and Banana Split”_. “Bassackwards” (named for financier DICk Bass).. “Easiest Route” (my kmd 0f run).. names often were not fitting with visit. In a fit of noontime creativity, the group named some runs on their mythical ski mountain. Phil sent them along for me to share with ’ you. Out of a sense of duty, I pass them along fOr your consideration. There was “Satan’s Smile” and “Holy Hemlock.” Another was “Devil’s Mistress" and and because of the Gad Valley location, there’S. “Gadzooks ” Then there5 “Riva Ridge” at Vail... which makes one wonder which came first. the horse or the ski run? “Danger Ahead.” Ah, yes, and the hilarious lit- Vail also boasts the famous “Tourist Trap.” Meet one who was.
