The system, used by the U.S. Maritime Administhe tration, visually PROFITABLE re-crea- tes ADVERTISING New York harbor from the perspective of an oil tanker. New tankers are so large and heavy they are extremely difficult to maneuver. Pilots must begin turning the ship, long before they see a curve ahead. They must possess intimate knowledge of both the harbors and tankers they negotiate. U.S. Maritime Administration uses the new computer to train prospective pilots. Using the video display equipment of the computer, they are able to place trainee pilots at the helm of the ship where they see the harbor in color, just as they would from an actual tanker. The computer knows every inch of the harbor and all capabilities of the tanker. By watching the video display terminal and operating a simulated control panel, trainees learn to maneuver the ship. Help for Cartoonists Using a similar computer system, another company is experimenting with the possibility of aiding animated cartoon artists with the machine. Because the computer is able to move images in real time and in color, the company believes one artist could create an original cartoon image, and let the computer move the image through the various stages it must pass our business. Prince, hingheinrich X Greer Most people I talk to think that options are for speculators. Some of the best benefits of options, however, accrue to the investor who sells covered calls. If you are a conservative invesor, consider the following $10,000 portfolio that includes option writing and only three stocks. This portfolio should perform reasonably well in an up, flat or down market. Polaroid should perform well in a bull market, ASA well in a bear market, and Texaco, which pays good dividends, should not fluctuate widely. On all three of these stocks we will sell just out of the money options every three months.
