Show xtifM PaKe 2 Millard ISPS County dlmnnuntts- - Well here it is 4:30 am on a Wednesday morning we've worked the night through again and I'm trying to get my tired brain to put together sentences that form thoughts and make some semblance of sense It hasn't been my fasorite week it has been cold so couldn’t play in the had another birthday yard and should have known with a birthday coming up the weather would turn nasty as it was always too cold for an outside birthday party when was growing up has been so But the weather delightful guess hoped it would go right on into summer Now the birthwill it day is over maybe As each new birthday rolls around welcome them less There are a few redeeming features about birthdays but getting a year older is not one of them Kirk always remembers my birthday with flowers which is such a thoughtful gesture on his part but feel a little guilty as his birthday is just three weeks before mine and think of it but don't get around to even giving him a call Cindy sent me a nice hand knitted vest smart move on my part to visit and give her a few knitting hints just before my birthday Can’t wait for an oppoitumty to wear the vest Ihurs Apr - - 25 1985 :Sr That is just to mention a couple and guess the point is that a birthday gives a person an excuse or maybe should say a reminder to make a thoughtful gesture The world seems to be so full of tragedy and sadness these days that we should all make more efforts to do kind deeds and be a friend - and not wait for birthdays or other occasions - just do it HELP! HELP! HELP! We are sinking in a sea of unclaimed pictures at the Chronicle Progress offices in both Delta and Fillmore Please save us! Come and claim your pictures! We have tall pictures small pictures old pictures new pictures all which someone thought important enough to have published in the paper and plunk out their hard earned money We will soon give pictures away to anyone who wants them whether it is their aunt Martha or not It is first here first served so if you want your own pictures get in and pick them up VENTq MCHSC THROUGH EDUCATION Human Services Commision accesses needs Editors Note: 1 his article is the first in a series written in an effort to keep citizens aware of the Human Services Commission articles like this will appear every other week in the Chronicle Progress For years before IPP came to Millard County people began to be concerned What’s going to happen with a rapid population increase? What effect will it have on our schools churches hospitals the job market? Will the use of drugs and alcohol crease? What about crime? What could be done to assure an attractive environment for all citizens? While some folks wrung their hands and worried and some refused to accept the idea of any change several agencies set up prevention plans In October 982 the County Commissioners requested the creation of the Human Services Commission (HSC) to be comprised of various agency representatives The purpose of this commission was to coordinate efforts and plan together to meet the needs that were anticipated as a result of the projected population increase Today with Elaine Barron Social as chairperson Worker the Human Services Commission has been formed consisting of Scott Speakman from Rick Moody from Social Services Mental Health Pam Nielson from Alcohol and Drug Outreach Margaret Denslev from Public Health Reece Finlinson from the school district Cameron Adams from Aging Services Jerald Finlinson from Environmental Health Roy Barraclough from the and Duane May cock from hospitals Job Service There are two appointed citizens: Inez Moody from the west side and Sylvia Huntsman from the east side The HSC has also welcomed the participation of Bill Engle from Juvenile Probation red Taylor from Millard County Chronicle Progress The USPS Publisher Susan Editor Advertising and who that our own correspondents always write their hometown news under a "by line” never write in the “first person” when they could so easily The second problem we have is in when you editorialize your If you render your own articles opinion or tell others what you think should be done (such as cleaning up the streets etc) you are editoraliz-inThese types of articles mast be labeled either as a “Letter to the Editor” or a “Guest Editorial” Our Page 2 is reserved for those types of yours or ours but they cannot be passed off as a "news” article Most news organizations (the Chronicle Progress included) have adopted a rule that editorial opinion cannot be part of a news account of anything Those columns set aside for opinion will be clearly marked as such The reason for this rule is that of all the editors recognize that things that erode credibility it is the constant intrusion of opinion into reports displayed as “news" The two have their places but they do not mix We also recognize that journalistic in values are often conflict Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between a news analysis and editorial News opinion analysis simply explores underlying causes and connections in the news and the label "news analysis” is no license to poach on editorial turf So if we sometimes change your stories around to quote the author of the story or say “he said” or "according to" etc or lable your story as a “Guest Editorial” it is because we feel the possiblity of editorializing has crept into it who who visited Chef’s Palace Too made prior reservations the Papa bottled beef topped with Mama’s specially mixed mustard wrapped in a dampened sack and then wrapped with newspaper to keep moist On the top with cake some “bread dought" raisins and spices topped with a vanilla icing in a loaf pan and wrapped in a white sack If Papa had something on his mind and he often had problems of the Water Company the Ward or the cattle business he could eat his dinner looking out over the greasewoods not talking much and eat his dinner as it came out of the sack Starting with the cake down through the sandwiches the fruit and finally finishing up with a bottle of good cold milk wrapped in a wet sugar sack Everything we used for food came in white sacks flour sugar beans rice all in white sacks When they were emptied washed and blown in the wind on the clothes line they became a part of our living Mama found many uses for the white sacks They were especially good for packing the lunch to take to the fields Always there was a two quart bottle of milk wrapped in a wet sack with a dry sack around it to keep the milk cool until dinner time placed in the bottom of the sack because it was heavy a quart bottle of home bottled peaches wrapped in a sack to keep
