At 12 years of age he went out and herded sheep for one year. At 15 years of age he went to work for different farmers until he was 20, then he worked hauling cord wood in Park City using two yoke of oxen. After John Beck discovered his mine in Eureka. Brother Gray went to work hauling or for him. He also hauled the sand to build the Relief Socity hall that is still standing on Main Street in Lehi; Mr. Beck having, built the hall and presented it to the Relief Society as a menento of their kindness to him before he located his mine. He also assisted Mr. Beck in building Beck's Hot Springs in North Salt Lake. He purchased a lot on the east part of Lehi and built a little house on it. About this time romance seemed to enter his life and he fell in love with a beautiful blonde, blue-eye- d neighbor girl. After a short courtship, they went by team from Lehi to Logan where they were married for eternity in the temple of the Lord. She has been a constant and faithful companion to him since that time. To this union were born fourteen children eleven boys and three girls -- all reaching maturity except one who died in infancy. For 26 years there were living 10 robust, active sons and three daughters. One grandson filled a mission, one an Ensign in U. S. Navy, one now on a mission. Less than a year ago Brother and Sister Gray were called upon to mourn the loss of their youngest son whom God in his wisdom called home, leaving a wife and three wonderful boys. There are 60 living grand children and 10 great grandchildren. Brother and Sister Gray have always lived on the same lot, sharing each other's joys and sorrows. Brother Gray was a farmer and stock raiser. This was supplemented by shearing sheep in the spring, working in the sugar factory in the fall. He was an active and willing worker and his entire famly have inherited this trait from him. He was of an optimistic nature and up to a few days preceding his passing was planning his garden and his activities for next summer. He was always a faithful I.atterday Saint and was a member of the High Priests Quorum, having been ordained to that office by Abel John Evans.
