Think It over. Lehl has about averaged a death a week, since the Lehl Free Press be gan publishing and has twice the expected number of membership; make an example that the price per year at a mlmum would be $25 dollars, and probably more, because the group who belong will probably all be the ones who expect to die before the amount received equals the amount put in or more. February U. S. GOVERNMENT LENDS ONE BILLION AND A HALF DOLLARS The government of the United Stte has lent during the past year a billion and a half dollars into the channels of business t fight the depression by means of the Rwnstruction Finance 'jrporatloa, and with the exception of 1146, 000.000 loaned to states tor relief purpose for which no collateral is required by law and which nobody in Washington seems to seriously expect to be repaid the government to get practically all of it back, and at a handsome rate of interest. This money does not come from taxation. It is money from the treasury, which due to the pancy of the people has been invested at interest rates as low as three-quarte-rs of one percent, because many people prefer w have their mony invested with Uncle Sam. Thus, the money is borrowed for a ra:e equal to 75 cents a year on $100 and lent to The R. F. C. at 1 per cent and the R. p. C. lends it to business over a period of six months to three years at interest rates varying from K to I per cent. Behind every dollar loaned to business is on the average, about 12 worth of collateral. R F. C. officials say. and Uncle Sam Is not lending money on 1929 values. Securities accepted from banks, etc., is reviewed by R. F. C. appraisers and revalued on the basis of what it is worth today. The worth of this system Is shown by the fact that much of the money lent In the past year has already been repaid, as' is shown by the fact that out of the 11,648.000,000 disbursed by the R. F. C. "during: fU first year it has received $317,000,000 ta repay- rents. The money has been lent to the fol lowing concerns under the following conditions and in many cases been partly repaid: Banks have been the largest borrowers and also the best payers. Upwards of S000 banks have been advanced $850,000,000, of which more than $250,000,000 has been repaid. Four hunderd and fifteen banks to which the R, F. C. had made loans ot $46,500,000 during the year closed their doors. To date, the R. T. C. has collected $18,000,000 of this, and expects to salvage much of the rest. Receivers for 524 closed banks, desiring to make payments to depositors on accounts that were tied up, borrowed $40,000,000 and have repaid about from the Daniel Guggenheim Foundation for the Advancement of Aeronautics was also presented to the club, which in 1U framed rim complimented and congratulated the club for 1U aid in mapping the further identifying the airways of America.
