Show Home Living Page 4B R Hill AFB HILL AIR FORCE BASE -Dr. Don Cooley, head of the Utah State University computer science department will hold an open meeting on HAFB Thur. Jan. 5, for all persons interested in enrolling in a computer science program leading to a masters degree. The meeting will be held in South Edition Lakeside Review 1984 Wednesday, January 4, Plans Computer Course the HAFB chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. If demand for the program is sufficient classes will begin in September 1984. All classes will be held on HAFB. Students do not need to be employed on HAFB to enroll in the classes. UTah State currently has a computer center on HAFB con nected to the VACS computer on its Logan campus. Students without a Bachelors degree in computer science will be required to enroll in certain prerequisite classes. Persons interested in the program should try to bring an official or unofficial copy of college transcripts with them. Employ ment, experience may also be substituted for certain classesu-po- n review by Cooley. SAVE EBERHARD 50th Anniversary Ernest and BOUNTIFUL Nevon Eberhard Bountiful, will note their golden wedding anniversary January 9. They were married January 9, 1934 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Eberhard was born June 20, 1909 in Stuttgart, Germany, a son of Ernest and Rosa Gebert Eberhard. Mrs. Eberhard was born December 31, 1917 in Provo to John T. and Zina Johnson Olsen. Eberhard grew up on a homestead farm south of Nampa, Idaho, and Mrs. Eberhard grew up in Provo. Eberhard holds Bachlors, Masters and honorary doctorate degrees from BYU. He has done graduate work at the Utah State University, University of Idaho and University of Southern California. He was a seminary instructor, principal, district coordinator and Director of Curriculum in the LDS Department of Education for 35 years and has served as coordinator of the Aaronic Priesthood in the Presiding Bishops office and director of proselyting in the missionary department of the LDS Church. He also served on. the LDS YMMIA General Board. He is the author of five books. Both have life long records of activity in the LDS church. They presided over the Oregon Mission from 1972 to 1974. Organized and presided over the Idaho Mission from 1974 to 1975 and organized and presided over the Utah Mission from 1975 to 1976. Mrs. Eberhard has been an auxiliary teacher, counselor in two Relief Society presidencies and a Relief Society and Primary Stake Board member. He has been a Bishop, High Councilman and welfare regional agent. Eberhard served as mayor of Preston, Idaho for two terms and county commissioner of Davis County, for four year.s The couple has six children, Mrs. Collette Howard, Boise, Idaho; Ernest Jan Eberhard, Sandy,; Rand Eberhard, Clearfield,; Carolee Strong, -- ngville,; Holly Staples, Coalville,; and Kim Charles Eberhard, Salt Lake City. They have 24 grandchildren. . A family reunion in honor of the anniversary is planned for late spring. Concert Series Set At Temple Square The SALT LAKE CITY public is invited to weekend concerts in January, to be held ,in the Assembly Hall of Temple , $quare as part of the Temple Square Concert Series. All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, except for the ; Utah Virtuosi Concert on Wednesday, Jan. 25, which will .'start at 8 p.m. . The concerts are sponsored Ijy the General Activities Committee of The Church of Jesus - Ghrist of Latter-da- y Saints. ' On Jan. 6, a Chamber Concert, made up of Andres concertmaster of the Utah Symphony; Reid Nibley, pianist; 'soprano JoAnn Ottley; and Don French , Peterson, . ljorn player with the Utah Sym-- ; 'phony, will perform Schuberts Auf Dem Strom for soprano, Jiorn, and piano; Joaquin Turi-ha- s 1st Sonata for Violin and ; Piano; and Brahms Trio for .horn, violin, and piano. !. On Sautrday, Jan. 7 James Drake, head of the organ depart-- , tfient at Utah State University in Logan, will perform organ works by Bach, Albioni, Liszt, and others. Evening in Vienna is the theme for the concert on Jan. 13, 14, which the Salt Lake Symphony will present. Music by Eduard Strauss, Johann Strauss Jr., and Franz Lehar will be among the pieces performed. Soprano Patricia ONeill accompanied by the orchestra will perform several of the pieces, including Vienna, City of My Dreams and AdeleS Laughing Song. Three polkas will also be included in the concert. In a special performance for the Temple Square Concert Series, Mezzo Soprano Sarah Car-dene- -- ; Saint-Saen- x. s, s, Walker and Pianist Roger will conclude their North American concert tour in Salt Lake City on Jan. 20. The duo has performed at every major British festival, as well as in Belgrade, Geneva, Brussels, Paris, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. They will be giving a joint master class for singers and pianists at the University of Utah while they are in Salt Lake City, and will be honored at a reception sponsored by the National Association . of Teachers of Singing. Their performance in the Assembly Hall will include SchuVig-nol- es . bert settings of poems by Goethe, poems by Verlaine set to music by Faure, Debussy, and Hahn, and Eight Gipsy Songs by Brahms. Also included will be a potpourri of. songs by George Gershwin, Noel Coward, and Vernon Duke. On Saturday Jan. 21, Douglas Humphreys will perform piano music by Schubert, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. Well known to Temple Square Concert Series audiences, Humphreys has been a first place winner in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and holds a masters degree from the Juilliard School of Music. On Friday Jan. 27, Karen Perkins and Sandra Peterson will perform a program of music for flute and piano by Schubert, Bozza, Roussel, Haydn, Debussy, Chopin, Poulenc, and others. Saturday, Jan. 28, a group of young musicians will peform works by Schubert, Bartok, and Popper. Quest String Quartet is made up of violinist Cecily Ward, 11, violinist Heidi Turner, 13; cellist Christopher Fang, a native of Taiwan.
