Show Page HILL TOP TIMES 6 Bowling Along Stewart The Flight Testers are cham By Hugh i. '" pions! A cocky, confident Light' ning crew riding high the crest of a victory Wave that had engulfed all opposition and left a slipstream of blasted hopes in its wake were odds-o- n favorites last Friday night to swamp the Flight Testers. The stakes were high the 1949 1950 Hill AFB championship. Never before in the league's history had the stage been set for such a f HP' dramatic play-of- f, But let us glance at the situation iLs - t, a week previous. Skymasters, one lone point in the van of the menac ing Lightnings were going into the last nights fray against a rapidly rising Air Installation Quint, while the Lightning placed their hopes on win over Tin Twisters. Chase Brian's team did all humanly possible by hammering out a four to nothing decision over the Twisters and between frames sent emmis- sarles down the line to see how things were faring with the team they hoped to beat. They weren't doing so well. Aware that they were in the throes of a terrific slump the masters were obviously nervous and this feeling apparently was imparted to their bowling balls which did all manner of things conducive to low scores. Under no pressure the Installation five could do no wrong and finally triumphed four to nothing, thus giving the Lightning a big assist in their chance for the playoff against the Flight Testers. Which brings us back to Friday repunight. With a tation of winning the "big ones," the second half champs were rightfully confident of carrying on. But there is "many a slip a'twixt the cup and the lip." The young Testers in a table turning act not only got hot but practically simmered over, as they guided the victory bound craft of the Lightnings into a bowling charybids and watched them sucked into kegling oblivion at least for this season! Bowling trophies for outstanding individual performances were presented to Dale Compton, Hal Fran-coand Hank DeBoer. . Friday, USAF Renames Three Air Dase FAIRWAY Three UJS.
