Sunday, July 30th was a sad, but also exciting day with the last church services held in the old Axtell Ward building. August will see taking the old building down and the start of a new tri-ward building. During the sacrament meeting on Sunday, the past, living bishops spoke. They are Danny L Boore, Quay Mecham, Maruis Despain, Richard Cowley and Elwood Sorenson, who served twice as bishop. Many of the past members and families returned for the last service in the old building. The Axtell Ward will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. and the Spanish Branch will meet at 1 p.m. in the Centerfield Ward building until the new building is complete. Allen Boore and Bryant Davis, playing on the 14-15 year-old Gunnison Bulldog's team ended the season placing in 3rd in the Utah State Babe Ruth Championship Tournament in Taylorsville. Congratulations to all the boys and coaches on this team. The Axtell Young Women attended the Stake Girls Camp last week up Fairview Canyon, The girls enjoyed many hikes and activities, such as eating a "Green Dinner" with all the food green or colored green. The Axtell Young Women won the dutch oven cooking contest in the dessert category. Girls attending the camp were Tanesha Ekker, Baily Thatcher, Chelsea Hansen, Hailee Buckland, Nicole Mecham, Megan Cejudo, Morgan Cejudo, Cheyenne Thatcher, Tara Buckland, Heidi Bastain, Katie Heath and Samantha Roberts with leaders, Sandra Brown, Cadence Thatcher and Brooke Heath. The weather seems to be hot and dry days and nights with winds in the late afternoon without any amount of rain in our area. Sunday evening was a little cooler and we did have a trace of moisture. The fire danger is very high at this time and we all need to use caution in the use of fires.
