The Kaiser Steel company took over the operation of the Utah Fuel company on Monday. The Kaiser company acquired the stock of the Utah Fuel at a public auction two weeks ago. The Kaiser organization, said a statement issued by Henry J. Kaiser, will push comprehensive plans to develop the utmost potentialities of one of the nations great areas of coal resources. Research dnd the latest technology of coal mining will be applied in concerted efforts to strengthen and expand the Utah coal industry, which already has been so well advanced by Utah Fuel company. Claude Heiner, former president of the Utah Fuel company, who has bten retained as management consultant, stated that virtually all employees will be retained under the new ownership. Jack Ashby, general manager of Kaiser Steel, A. B. Ordway and other Kaiser officials have been in Utah this week in conjunction with the change over in the ownership of the Utah Fuel company. P-T- A Dragerton Elementary The Dragerton elementary A held an election of officers Thursday evening, April 20. Mrs. P-T- George Perez was presiding affi-cwith Harold Hansen acting as chairman. Mrs. Perez rendered opening prayer after which a program Vas given by part of the fourth grade and followed by the fifth grade. Mrs. Rhea Cone was elected president - and Mrs. Orren Dickson, treasurer. Officers reelected for tht following year were Mrs. Ellen Cottrell, secretary; Mrs. George Perez, first vice president; Mrs. Mary Worthington, corresponding secretary, ahd Mr. Harold Hansen, second vice president. Mrs. Ruby Monroe gave the financial report and introduced the plan to erect playground equipment for the elementary grades. After the meeting the parents visited the teachers of the various grades in their respective er rooms. The officers of the A wish to thank the parents for their coP-T- operation with the school and teachers in making the past year a success. The' group hopes that in the future they can obtain even greater activity on' behalf of all concerned in helping to carry over the plans that the organization has made for the future. The next meeting ' will be on Thursday May 11 at which time the installation of officers will be held. SHYSIDE v V For. Dance Saturday Jimmie' Darts orchestra will play this Saturday night for the East Carbon Rotary dance. ' For. several years the fair city of Dragerton has enjoyed the reputation of being the most modem mining town in the west. Our people have never had to stutter when backing up that statement. But in spite of all the nice things that have been said we all know there is room for improvement. And we know too that much improvement has been done. k Improvements are going on at a fast pace at present. The grounds about the apartment house are being planted to grass. Shrubs and trees are being planted. In fact from one end of town to the other improvements are being made, but still not. enough. Today we drove over the town and found so much planting and digging going on in section A, B, and D that I couldnt get over to C and E. One is fearful of mentioning names on special homes because he is sure to leave some, of the better ones out. If you would look at Mr. Roses lot at 120 West Whitmore you would think there just couldnt be a nicer lot in townl Then just move one lot west to Moffits and you will find one just as nice. But the next lot of Mr. Owens is as (Continued on Page 16) New Election Reported Scheduled On Contested Offices in District 22 WINS AWARD FOR HEROIC ACT t- Jerome Hernandez, 25, Sunnyside miner has won the Joseph A. Holmes Safety association medal of honor for risking his life to rescue a fellow worker in the Kaiser mine last June 22, according to Associated Press reports. At risk to his own life, Mr. Hernandez returned to the working face after a fall of rock to free who had been pinned to the loading machine he was operating by a large slab of rock that fell from a fault running parallel to the working place. The International board had been meeting in Washington and this was on the agenda for settlement. Three offices are being contested; that of vice president where J. E. Brinley and Frank Fox are opposing each other; secretary-treasur- er with Art Biggs and Virgil Wright running against each other and the sub district board member for No. 2. The Carbon-EmeUMW members do not vote for this board member.
