Show THE CITIZEN 14 LEAGUE BATTLE IS CENTERED ON ARTICLE X the Old Cloek Corner" At vouchers to the undersigned at 1311 Walker Bank Building, Salt Lake City, Utah, on or before the 18th day of December. A. D. (Continued from page 7.) the covenant to the end. But it is inconceivable that the women, deceived once before by a similar promise, can be deceived again. You can deceive all of the women some of the time, and some of the women all of the time, but you cannot deceive all of the women all of the time. So confident of success were the zealots of Article X that they devised a flag for the League of Nations, a bag that was to be placed above the stars and stripes. But the American people want no flag above the stars and stripes. That flag is still good enough for them. That flag stands for the constitution of the United States as against a That flag and that constitution will surforeign vive when Wilsons League of Nations is but an evil and troubled memory. The most convincing argument against Article X at this time is essentially a practical one. There is not the slightest possibility that any League of Nations with Article X in it will be ratified by the United States senate. How absurd, therefore, is the insistence of Mr. Cox upon Article X without change or without the change which is demanded by the United States senate. memThe next senate of the United States will have, thirty-fiv- e bers in it who are pledged never to accept Article X without the members can prevent the Lodge reservations. And thirty-thre- e votes against Article X ratification of the treaty. These thirty-fiv- e are certain, for they are the votes of holdover senators. How obvious it is that even should the unexpected happen and Mr. Cox be elected he cannot have his way about Article X any more than the imperious and uncompromising Mr. Wilson could have his way. Whether we believe with Mr. Harding and the other Republican senators that Article X is the serious menace they believe it to be we must, if we are practical Americans, realize that there can be no League of Nations with an Article X in it. The only possible chance to have a league is to elect Mr. Harding, for he is wise enough to know that he must agree with the senate before a league can be established. Even though the Democratic nominees league were ideal in everything except Article X, yet, if he should cling to that Article X, as he promises to do, there would be no league in case of his super-sovereignt- Bankinf Perfection Under U. 8. Mr. Harding is sensible enough to know that he does not know it all and by agreeing in advance to arrive at a compromise he has assured the establishment of some kind of a League of Nations to maintain the peace of the world. Nor can Mr. Cox, at the last hour of the campaign, gain the confidence of the people by getting as far over on the Republican side as possible. If he does not stand for the Wilson league he stands for nothing in this campaign. WE PRINT THE CITIZEN our customers'pros-perit- y has built this Century printing Company W. G. ROMNEY J. Q.
