Show Beacon Sports Weber Highs baseball team lost their third game out of four starts last Tuesday afternoon at Viewmont High School, by a disappointing margin The Warriors frustrating loss came not because of any great power of the Viewmont squad, but rather costly errors, which any team who has enough of them, can lose a game. Weber lost the game on errors and nothing else, except for a couple of questionable calls on the field umpire. The Warrior's coming off a victory over Layton, looked like hey were ready to play when the first batter, Rick Scadden came to the plate and doubled to right field. Dale Stone batting m the number two position, drove a single to left field which sent Scadden to third base and Weber had their first scoring opportunity with no outs Weber got their only run on a ball that got past the catcher and Scadden scored from third base. From that point on, Viewmont kept the Warriors in check, as far as 5-- 1 m f , w r v, 5 ll&V W4 f folk er $ S - f V 'i 5. , i "5j, "&& ,'VVJEr W i mm v J r J f V v vrtMTim - 1 K r- J '' V 3 J It J . 41? Weber Errors were the difference in this ball game as allowed five runs on two hits but committed six costly mistakes. Viewmont made only one error while the pitcher gave up six hits. Bruce Hobbs for Weber struck out eight batters, while allowing three walks and two hits. As soon as the Warriors can cut down on their mistakes, it seems that their hitting is starting to pick up and they should win more games, that is if they dont keep getting injured Weber meets Roy this afternoon in a make up that was rained out last Friday and it will be interesting to see if the Warrior team can compete with the Region One title contender. With Steve Trawick making his first start at pitching this season, and limited mistakes, W'eber will no doubt have a chance scoring was concerned. Coach Dick Conolly, assistant to Coach Lee Dickemore, said, I havent seen a year like this one, where there has been so many injuries to players. The statement w as true because of another injury that pulled Webers starting catcher, Mike Price from his position. Mike still played in the game as a designated hitter, but w'ith a broken wrist. You might say youre not exactly at your best when it comes to hitting with a broken wrist. So the battle against injuries still goes on for the Warriors but this is something they are going to have to overcome if they are to win. Bruce Hobbs, Webers starting hurler, walked the first batter he faced, but went on to pitch a controlled game the rest of the w'ay, striking out his share of batters with an excellent variety of pitches. Viewmont with their first opportunity at the plate, scored three runs on one hit, the difference being the four errors committed by the Warriors.
