Show Sfoauer (Eotintg MARCH 13, 1997 '''-- Happy 80th Birthday Jr Ida Beitz will celebrate her 80th birthday march 1 5th with a family get together. She was born March 13, 1917 in St. George, Utah to Henry and Mary Ida Randall. She was raised and attended school in Enterprise Utah. She married David R. Hardy in Parowan, Utah on June 30, 1936. David worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and they lived at Crestline, Nevada and Uveda before settling for good in Milford. They had five children: Rulon J. Hardy, Sherry Diane Hardy (died at 3 months), Lorraine Hardy, Shirlene Hardy Ashley, and Dennis Ray Hardy, all living in Milford. Her husband, David died Oct. 9, 1959 doing what him and his boys loved doing the most, deer hunting. Ida was left to raise her young family on her own. She worked at the school lunch until 1979 when she retired. Ida is a member of the LDS Church working for many years in the Primary and still active as a visiting teacher. Ida married Jerry Beitz on March 10, 1978 and they have enjoyed their retirement years together. Ida's children have much love and respect for their mother for being the good example she has been in their lives. Ida has 17 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. If I aoV CX " lonttgr PAGE 2 1 Early Settlers of Minersville I-- .... f if f Submitted by Reva Albrecht Jehu Blackburn - Jehu Blackburn was the son of Thomas Blackburn and Elizabeth Bohn. He was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 25, 1 824. He was baptized in November, 1 844. He came to Utah in 1847, in the Captain Nebeker Company. He then came to Minersville in the spring of 1 859 and planted the first crops. Thomas andLydia Pilch Thrower - It was in Norwich that the Gospel came into the lives of Saints on April Thomas and Lydia. Lydia was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Da- y 5, 1 85 1 by Claudius Spencer, and Thomas was baptized in 1 855. Thomas and Lydia kept what was known as the conference House. This was a home for all the missionaries. On April 23, 1 862 Thomas, Lydia and their two girls, Lydia age 12, and Rachel age 8, bade farewell to friends and relatives and started for Utah. They left their oldest daughter Leah, who was married, in England to care for the conference House. They would send money to her so she could later come to America. They sailed from Liverpool, England on the John J. Boyd sailing vessel, and arrived in new York on June 1, 1862. Thomas, his wife, and two daughters left Nauvoo in Captain Howard Duncan's company. A terrific storm came up one night while they were crossing the plains, and Thomas was sleeping on the ground, he soon found himself floating in water. He got sick after and died three days later of pneumonia on August 8, 1862. He was rolled in a blanket and buried in a lonely grave on the plains. In November of 1 862, Jehu Blackburn went to Provo from Minersville, Utah with a load of cheese and butter. He met Lydia Thrower, and told her she could work for him if she would go to Minersville and she decided to go. Mr. Blackburn had a ranch known as the "Rocky Ford" about Security Bank works in partnership seven miles from Minersville. Lydia and her two girls went to the ranch and worked for Mr. with Milford Elementary to enhance community Blackburn to earn money. They had a herd of 35 milk cows to care for. He taught his children from his first marriage to honor and obey Lydia, and also to look up to her .
