WESTERN MINERAL SURVEY w wta 'considered as United commercial ore' prior to World War I. As these technological improvements advance further they will make nossible the treatment of additional low-graore now considered noncommercial. The recent stockpiling policy on strategic metals, recommended by the armed services and incorporated into law by Congress, will assure mining operations in the future on a much more uniform basis than in the past. During the periods when civilian requirements are not equal to-- , domestic, production, then the excess over the civilian requirements will be purchased and stockpiled by the government solely for national defense purposes. Had we accumulated a substantial stockpile of metals prior to World War II, the taxpayers of .this country would have been saved millions of dollars in reduced, war. munition costs. This move is . most constructive from the standpoint of maximum utilization of our mineral resources. ' The western division. of the American Mining Congress, at the meeting held in Salt Lake City, Utah, November, 1945, expressed the views of a vast ma- us jority. of the leaders in the metal mining industry in The the following resolution: men best qualified to know, by experitraining and first-haemphatically: ence, say mostHAVE-NOnaT This is not a tion so far as metals and minerals are concerned nor is it likely to become such. de - Compiled by Prominent Geologist 2 JO i Industrial Stocks . . .45 1.40 1.42 .40 1.36 Spokane Stock Exchange . ... 1JJ furnished ( Nominal by Silver Dollar A quotations Richard C.
