Is it necessary to re move the old finish first? ANSWER: It usually is necessary because the added coats of finish can cause sticking of the doors. Too, it is recommended if you want the cabinets to have a like-neappearance. Paint or varnish can be removed quite easily by one of the many paint removers on the market. Such removers penetrate paint or stain and convert them to sludge, which can be removed with a putty knife. Place the doors on the floor with supports under each end, then place enough weight on the center of the door to bow it slightly in the opposite direction. Let it sit for two or three days or until the bow has been compensated and the door straightened.
