Show Thursday, March 26, 1959 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Page 8 Kearns School Mews On Monday, March 16, the fourth served the planet Venus and the grade students of Mr. Paul Geert-sen-s class at the South Kearns School held school on the play grounds at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this added hour of school was to study the sky. The class had been studying astronomy for several we$ks and had been looking forward to this night for some time. The students ob reflector-typ- e Moon through a telescope. Some students thought that the moon, with all of its craters, looked like a huge golf-bal- l. The big and little dippers, the north star, casseopeia, and several other constellations were pointed out to the boys and girls. Many of the students brought along their brothers and sisters and ch hold an executive meeting Monday, March 30, at 7 p.m. at the school. Four third grades of the South All chairmen are urged to attend. Kearns School are on a field trip today (Thursday). By comparison, the cost of living index has gone up 27. The story of rising costs can be told again and again in every phase of Kennecotts operations. Supplies and services, including wages, are higher now than they were 10 years ago. And there have been changes at the mine. More waste material must be removed to uncover the ore, and the ore itself contains less copper. As a result, much greater quantities of material must be handled to produce the same amount of copper. It is a continuing program that seeks economy aad efficiency through improved equipment, the development of better operating methods, the most effective use of supplies and the most efficient use of the work force. The program helps Kennecott produce copper successfully.
