These words came from Fillmore Hospital Administrator James B. Fisher just before an Air Med plane took off with another patient from Fillmore Hospital on Tuesday, April 6, 1982. The precision clockwork was demonstrated when the patient, a premature baby, arrived at the hospital eight weeks early. The entire medical care team jumped into action and together gave the tiny baby girl the best care available anywhere, and with very happy results. The mornings events started at about 8:30 when Sharon and Montee Brunson of Fillmore walked into the hospital with Sharon in labor. But Sharon wasnt due until the last of May. Dr. Brent Jackson and his hospital staff had been alerted and met the couple at the hospital with Dr. Jackson already in his scrub greens. His initial examination' confirmed that Sharon was about to deliver and within 30 minutes little Jamie Ann Brunson had made her presence known. The Fillmore Ambulance Crew helped the air med team load Jamie and the incubator into the ambulance and sped with their precious cargo back to the airport for the return flight to Provo. Jamie has proven to be quite a battler tool She fought so hard to live the first 24 hours that she literally blew a hole in her lung. That calmed her down somewhat and then it healed quickly. A few days later she had another little setback, but doctors assure her anxious parents that she is now doing nicely. She is out of her incubator and mother Sharon has finally gotten to hold her tiny dark haired daughter. Although this emergency situation took place two weeks ago, we waited to write the story until we were sure Jamie was going to make it. But for the of Fillmores "precision clockwork doctors, nurses, lab technicians, hospital staff, ambulance team, and the newly instituted statewide air ambulances, Jamies story could have been quite different. Instead, the suspect suddenly braked and make a quick left turn behind Johnson's patrol car, crossed over the median and headed back south. UHP Sgt. Lyle Evans joined the chase when the suspect sped by the Fillmore turnoff. UHP Trooper Gayton Allred, who had arrived at the Meadow off ramp, was alerted and asked to set Allred and Sheriff up a roadblock. Ed Phillips, who arrived there about that time, unrolled a spiked mat across the highway, which is used only when a suspect has already tried to evade arrest. With the other officers still to pursuit, the suspect drove over the spikes and traveled on about another f mile, Johnson said, when the tires started to go flat.
