Show TRUTHS. A number of tho so-called "Americans" "Ameri-cans" nro very soro over tho personnel person-nel of their ticket, and refuso to stand for It. Thoy say It Is rotten. Llko Og- den Hllcs, "once a Mormon always a Mormon," is their cry. Ez Thompson, J. B. Moreton and Frank Swenson, three out of the flvo on their ticket, como under the head of onco being Mormons. This Is tough on tho church. It was hard enough to have Ogden Hlles chargo Joo Rawlins up to It. Tho "American" committee, last Wednesday night, decided to adopt tho plan of leaving Mormons and "Americans" alone and devoto their whole time trying to induce Gentllo Republicans to join them. They were to spread tho report that the hierarchy was for Morris, and nsk Gentiles to read tho Deserot News. Thoro are j very few Gentllo Democrats nnd It would not do to cry that tho church was for Lynch, ns they could get no votes from that quarter. How long will our Gentllo friends bo played for suckers? The Tribune, with flash headlines, announced tho departure of Attorney Sam McDowall, claiming that ho is another victim of the hatred of the hierarchy. McDowall claims to bo a lawyer and because of his antagonism to tho church has been boycotted until un-til all his practice has been taken away from him. If Sam McDowall lnd moro than ono client during all his stay in this city, wo aro not awaro of It. Now, if tho hierarchy has any Influence with tho Walker Bros., ono of whom Is an "American" and bitterly bitter-ly anti-Mormon, it is about time tho Tribune called tho Walker Bros. down. Just think of these peoplo discharging n patriot llko Sam McDowall because of tho hierarchy. Wo do not beliovo that Sam McDowall over had a Mormon Mor-mon client In his Hfo for tho hierarchy to take away from him. There aro attorneys in this city who have been very antagonistic to tho Mormon church nnd still they havo Mormon clients, and nro tho most prosperous attorneys in tho west. Wo nro willing to wager n hat that tho so-called hierarchy hie-rarchy has never seen Sam McDowall, never heard of him or know that ho was an attorney; and, furthermore, that they had never heard that ho was against tho Mormon church. What do tho Gentiles think of such rot as this McDowall affair? Poor old man McDowall; wo feel for him. Wo do not bellevo there is a Gentile attorney at-torney in town but what Is laughing over tho idea of Sam losing his practice. prac-tice. We beliovo Sam McDowall's threat Is similar to the ono made by y his friend, C. Mostyn Owen. Owen made tho same howl some time ago, but wo notice ho is still here. McDowall Mc-Dowall would starve to death In any city in tho union trying to practice law. It looks as If Sam is attempting to work tho same game as C. Mostyn , Owen, three P's Schroedor and similar vultures. If old Sam is net In tho field I before long lecturing against the Mor- ' mon church and gathering subscrip tions from old maids and childless mothers, wo miss our guess. Wo aro willing to wager that McDowall has ordered a largo number of Tribunes with this nrticlo In to uso In the future. fu-ture. j. ; Councllmen Martin and Black should resign. Thoy aro holding their positions posi-tions ' ider false pretenses; In fact, they v elected under false pro-tenses. pro-tenses. Thoy both pretended to bo Republicans, but'nelther of them were Republicans then and aro not now. I i They call themselves "Americans" now, but neither of them have any conception of what truo Americanism Is. j The Tribune could save space (and the nerves of Its readers), If It would 1 simply state each day the real reason "Why tho American Party Was Organized" Or-ganized" to bo that tho HON. Thomas Kearns was not re-elected United States Senator. The Democratic canvasser In dis trict No. 2C reported tho other day that he could not And any Democrats and that tho best thing his friends could do would be to cut otit tho Democratic Dem-ocratic farce altogether. j. v5 Tho chief object of Boss Kearns of jj the "American" party is to beat the ij Republicans, with tho "Americans' If I possible, but If that can't bo done, to beat them with the Democrats. Tho 4i "Americans" are consequently trying to form a coalition with tho Democrats Demo-crats In order to beat tho Republicans. Even If tho fusion Is accomplished tho Republicans will have moro votes than both of them combined. J Heard on tho street: George W. Moyer to Senator Smoot: "Senator, what will tho peoplo in Washington say when comparing the vote In Salt Lake two years ago If the Republicans at this election have 10,000 votes, the Democrats C000 and tho "Americans" 5500?" Senator Smoot: "Two years ago you and others begged with tears in your eyes that the Republicans exert all their powers to get rid of tho Kearns yoke and tho Kearns gang. Tho Republicans Re-publicans did so and beat them. Now you and a fow llko you have joined hands with Kearns and his gang. If tho Republicans have 10,000 votes in this city tho people in Washington will say tho Republicans voted their ticket and that tho Republicans have got rid of a few renegades and that they are well rid of them; good riddance rid-dance to bad rubbish." Attorney D. M. Halgh is a candidate candi-date for city attornoy for Murray. He Is an able young lawyer and has been a resident of Murray for a number of years. Ho should poll a largo vote. "Imagine," said a well known citizen citi-zen tho other day, "Frank Swenson, candldato on tho 'American' ticket for treasurer, holding tho city's funds." "It is funny," said his friend. Who do you suppose we could get to hold Swenson?" "That's easy," was tho response, "J. B. Moreton, tho 'American' candldato for recorder." |
