First Annual Performance West/ Ogden Valley Triathlon and Taste of Ogden Valley a Success Based on input and comments from participating athletes and businesses, the First Annual Performance West Ogden Valley Triathlon and Taste of Ogden Valley was a success. This first time event drew over 180 competitors on a beautiful, chilly, fall day to Ogden Valley. Afterward athletes and spectators enjoyed the music of Brenn Hill and Shades of Gray while sampling menu items from Ogden Valley restaurants and shopping vendor booths. Lisa Karam, Event Organizer Extraordinary Events by Lisa When Is the Right Time? Some of the most frequent comments expressed concerning the incorporation of Eden involve the issue of timing. Such as, “I believe Eden should become a city someday, but is now the right time?” Or, “Eden is great the way it is. I love it here. Eden will become a city someday, but why change things now?” I, like almost everyone else who moved to the Valley recently, did so to get away from the problems of the population explosion along the Wasatch Front and other metropolitan areas, and everything that comes with it. To put it simply, I moved to the country to get away from the city. Why in the world should I then strongly support the petition drive to request a feasibility study regarding making Eden into the very thing I left almost five years ago—a city? One thing we all seem to agree on is that we all love Eden. We should all stop questioning motives and quit believing there is an agenda behind everything. There are great and honorable men and women on both sides of the issue. Vedas is quoted as saying, “The success of the actions of great men depends more upon the purity of their hearts than upon the means of their actions.” I know that there are pure hearts within the citizens pushing for and against the incorporation of Eden. But let’s get back to the original question. “When is the Right Time?” One must ask a number of questions based on some specific assumptions. First, change is inevitable. Eden is growing. Who determines the nature and direction of that growth? Do you believe that Weber County has, and are they making most of the right decisions in managing that growth? Do a few influential, yet well meaning, individuals determine what Eden will look like in ten to twenty years? Is change a good thing or a bad thing? Would you personally like to have more say in the direction of our future? Second, this growth will necessitate additional businesses. Do you like the commercial area of Eden the way it is now? Do you like the way it looks, or do you believe some control might be useful? What additional businesses, if any, would you like to see in the Eden? Third, because of this growth, public works and services will have to be improved at some point in time, regardless of whether Eden becomes a city. How are these improvements LETTERS TO EDITOR cont. on page 3 Greatness is not just where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it. But sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor. -Author Unkown THE PACKAGER, INC.
