Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 12 Volume II, Issue XVIII September 15, 2000 Student News Why I Would Like to See the Construction of These Interconnected, Multi-use, Nonmotorized, Pathways in Ogden Valley! By Will McKay Why I Like Trails By Camaraan Martin Student Essayist When I’m on the Pineview trail I see animals that I don’t see anywhere else when I’m in the Valley. There’s always moose and geese and ducks and sandhill cranes. I think it’s cool all the different tracks I see left by the animals in the mud and even though it’s kind of gross, I can tell what kind of animal left what kind of “poop” on the trail too! Sometimes I like to sneak up on a pool on the river and see if I can get a glimpse of the trout before they dart under the bank. I also like checking out all the different kinds of spider webs (without the spiders!). They look cool with all the little drops of water on them. It bugs me though when I’m walking along and I get a spider web in my face! Sometimes when I’m with my family on the trail in the fall we’ll pick some choke cherries or elder berries and go home and make some jam and syrup, and don’t ask me where they are. It’s a secret. You’ll have to find your own! In the spring my Mom can tell what every flower is. She thinks that’s pretty cool too but I’m not too much into flowers except maybe chokecherry blossoms. Berries rule! I like the trail because you don’t have to worry about the cars hitting you or motorcycles running over you. It’s quiet except for the sounds that are supposed to be there. I like that. One thing that makes my Dad mad is when private property makes it impossible to get to the river or the lake or the mountains. He says public lands are for the public and should be accessible. I tell him to chill! That’s why there are trails and why the trail people are trying to make more trails around the Valley. I tell him to go to the trail meetings and help them work on it. I think he will. Another reason I really like the trails is that I can find adventure there. I like reading about guys like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer and when I’m on the trail I can imagine all kinds of things. One of the coolest times was when my Dad took Jake and me over to the North Arm Trail when it was dark. We sat down on a log and he read to us out of the Hobbit. Bilbo and the dwarfs were making their way down the path through Mirkwood. It was pretty scary and I didn’t like that owl hooting in the tree above us and whatever was making all that noise in the brush behind us, but I’ll never forget what happened on the path through Mirkwood. Those are the reasons I like the trail. Student Essayist Can you think of a better way to cleanse the air, and enjoy natural beauty? The Ogden Valley Pathways will be perfect for afternoon walks, and enjoyment of the peacefulness of a beautiful path without any vehicles present at any time. There were meetings held by Ogden and Weber Valley pathways to create these treasures, which will enhance the natural beauty of Ogden Valley. The value of pathways of this nature in Ogden Valley is highly encouraged by those that want them to come true. And I would enjoy witnessing the construction of these heavily favored walkways. Another factor, would be the enlarged safety that they will bring. There are no motorized vehicles permitted on the surfaces of these pathways. It would be a great accomplishment to all society if we would be able to perform this task of restoring Ogden Valley by the presence of the Ogden Valley Pathways. Why I’d like to See a Network of Interconnected, Multi-use, Nonmotorized Pathways in Ogden Valley By Emily Graves Student Essayist I’d like to see a network of interconnected pathways here in the Valley. These paths would be a good thing for our environment. It will still preserve the beauty, and also allow people of all ages to go safely to where they’re going. It would be much safer for those who like to exercise, such as running, bike riding, walking, and so on. It will Snowcrest Activities also encourage people to be more physically fit. It will prevent pollution that we put in the air by car, and will save you some money you spend on gas for just going around the valley. This may please those who live on the road, because it will cause less traffic here, and much more peace and quiet. It may reduce the number of accidents of people getting hit frequently. This project may take some time, and we need the support of the people. Sport News Soccerfest 2000 Principal Mr. Stillwell helps with schedule changes at Snowcrest Jr. High.
