Show MINERS IMPRISONED BY SNOW-SLIDES SNOW-SLIDES The News is indebted to Garret Wilkin, superintendent of the Red Warrior, Moscow and Commonwealth mines, for an account of a recent snowslide which occurred in the American Forks country. Mr. Wilkin Wil-kin is also superintendent of the Red Cloud mine in that district. Recently Recent-ly his brother-in-law Fred Leonard and his foreman Robert Sherwood, with four other miners were sent to see if the Rod Cloud could be reached so as to start work. The party reached the mine but a heavy fall of snow and resulting snowslldes buried the canyon in thirty feet of snow and made the party prisoners for nine days. Fortunately there were plenty of supplies at the mine and the party did not suffer for food. A teamster trying to haul coal in that section was caught in one of the big slides and killed. His partner escaped. The Red Cloud party finally made a break for liberty and succeeded in getting out of the canyon. Mr. Wilkin Wil-kin had already commenced the organization or-ganization of a party of rescuers to try to reach the imprisoned miners. |
